this might sound like a foolish question, how much difference recoil from a 5" barrel than a 3" barrel if any. I have some 5" barrels and wanting a 3" barrel for concealment.

Everything else being equal (caliber, weight) shorter barrel usually means more recoil and more muzzle flash.

Shorter barrels will be a bit more snappier

With the same ammo the shorter barrel will have more recoil simply because the pistol will usually be lighter in weight. How the recoil will "feel" to you can be significantly adjusted with the choice of grips and how well they fit your hand.

muzzle flip will be a factor too

The recoil will be snappier, meaning more muzzle flip, and it will be louder. It's still worth it in my opinion, to have a gun that is comfortable to carry.

Recoil will be snappier with the shorter barrel, all other things being equal. Do bear in mind though, this can be overcome with plenty o training and range time with the short barreled gun.
