Okay, got my MBC Cowboy #1's today, the 250 gr. LRNFP, still waiting on my Starline brass...one question: Do I need to lube the bullets before seating? I'm new to loading the .45 Colt, and this is my first attempt at loading non-jacketed bullets. I'm looking for a non-leading, soft-shooting plinking load for my S&W model 25 and my soon-to-arrive (hopefully) USFA SAA. I've got some load recipes, just need to know more about bullet lube.

The blue ring at the bottom of the bullet is the lube. Just make sure you bell for .452 and you should be fine.

You can lube them if you get leading.
I have some commercial lead bullets that are just a little undersize and I was getting some leading.
Found that a quick tumble with Lee Liquid Alox or Rooster Jacket took care of the leading. Found the bullets that had LLA were generally as accurate or more accurate than the original bullets. The RJ was almost always less accurate by a small amount than the as-received bullets.
I just pour 500 bullets into a casserole pan, squirt a little lube on them, and shuffle around like dominoes for 30-60 seconds. If all the bullets have a wet/shiny appearance on the driving bands, that is all that is required. Pour them out on aluminum foil or wax paper and leave them for a day or two.
I am thinking about ordered 500 bullets as-cast and unlubed just to play with one of these days.
