Does anyone have any idea as to why everywhere online seems to be sold out of Colt 1911s? Is it because demand is so high since it's the 100th anniversary?

I was wondering the same thing. I'm currently in the market for my first 1911, and I'm absolutely set on a Colt. Having trouble finding good selections :banghead:

I snagged a nice stainless Government MK.IV last month at my LGS, and it turns out we were both made in '90 :D
So I got my first 1911 on its 100th anniversary, and our 21st birthday at the same time!

No problem here in the Phoenix area.
I picked up a Colt Commander TALO Wiley Clapp model monday afternoon. I had been looking for it, and there it was.
Good luck.

Gary at randgfirearms.com has some really nice custom and older Colts for what you would pay for a new one. He's as honest as they come and a great guy to deal with.

I was at the gun shop like a week or so ago & the guy there had like 6 different 1911's in the showcase including a ParaOrd Warthog. But the funny thing was he only had one 100th anniversary 1911

I would like to pick one up in WI too. Not too many places that carry them. Best chance for me is to pick up a used one at Gander Mountain. They don't show up very often though.

In my experience, Colt 1911s always seem to be in short supply, either online or in local gunshops. Just last year, I walked into my favorite LGS one afternoon and found they had a gorgeous 1976 Series 70 Govt model in the case. I'd been in just a few days prior, and it wasn't there at that time. I was interested, as I was holding it and checking the action, another guy walks through the door and says to me, "If you're not gonna buy it, I will."
I took it home. No regrets. If I would have shown up 5 minutes later, it would have been gone.
About three years ago, I put my email address in the queue at an online dealership for a Colt Combat Commander. Months later, I was notified that they had some on hand. I thought to myself, "Self, you have a couple of days to decide if now's the time."
No, I didn't. They were gone the next day.
