Factory Second Ammo (?)

While at Cheaper Than Dirt yesterday, I was browsing the .40 S&W ammo, when I ran across dozens of white boxes labeled "Federal 165-gr EFMJ," which they were selling for just shy of $15 per 50-rd box. On the back of the box, though, was a label identifying it as "Factory Second - Accuracy" ammo.

I bought a couple of boxes to help break in my Walther PPS, but I wonder how inaccurate the ammo is, that they're selling it off at roughly half price?

Anyone else ever run into something like this?

Should make for interesting shooting.

Maybe the powder wasn't metered correctly in those (probably underloaded as I doubt they'd release overpressure ammo).
I bought a few cheap boxes of winchester white box 9mm ammo once that was very cheap. The writing on the box was all in spanish and the stuff was very dirty. It functioned ok but wasn't something I'd want to use for anything other than range practice.

Probably blems. They do not meet the pretty factor so go at reduced price.

I agree, probably blemished.

Nosler sells factory 2nds, and they say they are only blemished - but otherwise the same.

No, it probably means that they were test batches, the commercial ammo manufactures blend their own powered, so it varies, THEN they work up to the load standard, this seems to have failed accuracy.

And if it was SD, them its probably better than any bargain bin PMC or WWB, but not up to their Premium ammo standard, so as long as you aren't shooting a match, it should be more than fine.

OH BTW, pulled, the bullets alone are probably worth 15

If it's because they're blemished, they must be pretty bad. I've seen pretty dull looking stuff come out of ordinary winchester boxes.

I have purchased and used (with great satisfaction) blemished bullets before for reloading, but never saw loaded ammo sold that way.
