My local Big Five Sporting goods store is selling these for $139.99. They appear to be an 870 clone. Does anyone know anything about them?

Nope, but....

If there's ONE thing the US firearms industry does well, it's making pump guns that cost less than a week's pay for a working man, hold up under any conditions and last longer than we will.

A few dollars more will get you a used Big Four pump that will feed, entertain and protect your family for generations. Go for quality, not price...

Used is great option.

'Nuther option, Academy Sports just opened around here. First week the 870 Express was $219, second week the 870 Express $199, this week $10 of any rifle, handgun or shotgun in stock.

Considerations: Even if you don't have an Academy, keep eyes and ears open. Other stores may offer specials because inventory is coming up, they may even honor competitor's ads for specials.

Remember too, some folks buy a gun and sell it after hunting season...or maybe they need to pay for plastic used last month.

So figure in shipping and all, see what is local, and if for say you spend $199 instead of $139, in 6 months you will forget about the extra $60 you spent.

jojosdad: Were I you, I'd wait untill big five has their regular sale on the mossberg 500s.

Usually they sell what they call the "security" which is a 7 round tube gun with a 20 inch barrel or the standard 500 "combo" with an 18 inch barrel and a 28 inch barrel for 199. either of those guns will do everything you ask of it, provided you replace the plastic safety with a metal one.

I did some training with a municipal police department that had Hawk 870-clones. They were junk. One officer had the forearm come off in his hand as he worked the action. Save your money and buy a Remington or Mossberg.

I have both the Norinco 982 w/ghostring sights and the Hawk 981 w/bead. After several hundred rds of buck, slug & heavy field loads the only problem I've encountered is the ghostring sights loosening from the heavy recoil (easily fixed w/Loctite). Both have taken the following 870 parts/accesories: 870 bolt, Remington R3 recoil pad, 4rd Sidesaddle, Wilson mag tube spring & follower, & mag tube cap w/sling stud. IMHO they make good budget/beater shotguns.

Thanks for the advice. I bought a Moss 500 w/extra 18 1/2" barrel and pistol grip years ago - shot it one time w/pistol grip and hated it. Sold it to a good friend. Last week was talking to this friend and asked him about the Norinco gun - he offered to sell me the Mossberg back w/hastings slug barrel and scope and in hard case for $300. In payments yet!!
