I have some cash saved up, and am looking to address a hankering for a 20ga semiauto. I already have a few 20ga pump guns and O/Us, and now it's time for a 20ga semi - just because. :) It'll be used for upland and range work, shooting factory fodder and 3/4oz handloads.

I'm almost sold on the M2 Field. But before I spend the money on one, I figured that I'd solicit inputs from folk that own/have owned them that think that I should NOT do the deal.....

I've already looked at other offerings, and the only other guns that I'd consider would be the AL391 or maybe the SX3, but I'm liking the M2 better right now...

Other than furniture and mag capacity/forearm shape - what is really different between the M2 and the Montefeltro? I wonder why the M2 is several hundred dollars mo' expensive than its sporting cousin....

I don't really know the difference for sure ... but by looking at the web site... I would say the Comfortech stock and recoil pad system. I believe the forearm is just a reshape and more less or to "match up" with the stock setup. The In-Line Inertia Driven® System appears to be model "two" of the same inertia bolt ... which the function appears to almost the same as they old... whether it is an improvement on the old or a cheaper way to keep the good set up of the old for less cost( I don't know). You know the old car game ... give 10 hp and 2 mpg (which they could have give to start with) call it a new improved product with a new name.

The Montefeltro still is a good gun (for me) ... hard to beat in a dove Field ... tough as bulldog at the clay range ... darn easy to clean to boot... easy on the shooter! I've got maybe 25 to 30,000 shots thought mine. One misfire .. an Activ hull..reloaded with a bur on the plastic rim .. failed to come out of the mag tube because of burr...not the guns fault. Cut that burr off and killed a dove with that shell.

If the M2 is better ...then it is a great gun. I go to a gun shop and have a look.

I can't get enough of my AL391. It's the best shotgun I've ever laid hands on, bar none. Before buying it, I certainly considered a Benelli and definitely a Winchester. I could have gone with a Winchester and would have been happy, but I just couldn't ever get on board with a Benelli.

I went back into the market recently for another autoloader, and took yet another look at Benelli. I just couldn't justify the extra few hundred bucks. I got an 1100 this time. I have yet to really get to know it though, but so far I really like it.

Having said that, the one guy I know who kills more waterfowl than all others combined, says to go with a Benelli.

I've owned two AL391's and a AL390. I prefer the 390 because of it's simpler gas system and much easier to maintain. Don't get me wrong the 391's are excellent guns, I just prefer the 390...

Seriously, though, if you want an awesome, out of the box shotgun and you are willing to pay for it, it's hard to go wrong with Benelli. If you want a gun to tinker with, get the Saiga 20. :)

The only reason I can think of is because you like the Monte more. But whatever you do, get one or the other.

I have one that has the grip tight stock, I really like the shotgun but it is not my go to 20ga. I tried just about every steel load and 2 sets of aftermarket choke tubes and never was satisfied with the patterns. I have not had that gun out of the house in 2yrs, since I bought a Browning Silver 20ga. If I was wanting a 20ga auto today, I would buy a Weatherby SA-08, I bought a youth version for my daughter and it was only $411 shipped to my FFL, and it has patterned several steel loads very well and even a couple of Remington HD loads.

Far be it for me to talk a man out of a Benelli, I have 4, and they are some very easy to clean and well made guns, but they can be frustrating to find that golden load or trouble shoot if a problem does occur.

I just think there are far better choices, but this is coming from a guy who looks at a shotgun for one purpose, waterfowl.
