92FS Hip Holster, belt and mag pouch.

March 1, 2011, 12:55 PM
Just like the title says. I'm attending a training class on the 12th and they require a hip holster, double mag pouch. I know that I will also need a proper belt.

I've never carried a gun in a holster before. So I'm completely oblivious as to what I really need. I'm not real worried about price.

Any suggestions?

Some companies make the decisions easy for you, like Comp-tac.

If you want to save a few bucks and get a nylon belt, just get the holster and mag pouch and get the 5-stitch Instructor belt from Wilderness Tactical.

Pay attention to the belt measuring instructions, they are very important.

Blade-tech may also have a combo deal, though I'm not sure.

Your timeline is pretty short, so you'll need to order quickly. Another option if you like leather is the Galco Avenger and the Galco mag pouch. They are available from many internet retailers and should ship pretty quickly.

Thanks for the quick response! Is the comptac stuff pretty decent?

I recently picked up a DEAL on gunbroker for a military LC-2 belt, Bianchi military pouch, and Bianchi military UM-84 holster (the hoslter is even reversible, and the flap can be removed, if you want an open topped holster for speed). The whole rig was designed for the Beretta 92, and was brand new. I think I paid about $42 for everything, delivered. Nobody but me bid on it. If you found a similar rig, it would be all you need for your class. Check out ebay. They usually sell new and used Bianchi and other M9 holsters, etc.

Comp-tac (as does Blade-tech) makes some of the best equipment available. They are highly recommended.

Do a search on THR and you will turn up some pictures of forum member Shipwreck's 92 in a Comp-tac Infidel IWB holster.

The other nice thing about the UM-84 holster is that once the flap is removed you can purchase and install a thumb snap, and the same holster can be rigged on a hip extender for tactical use or as a shoulder holster.

I'll admit I have zero experience with this combo for your intended application, but I've got to believe the Bianchi UM84 not a good choice for a pistol training class.

For a pistol training class you'd want a holster that is easy, and quick, to draw from and easy to reholster while still holding the pistol securely. I don't think the Bianchi UM84 fits those requirements.

There are several experienced trainers on this forum and hopefully they will chime in soon.

You could always call the school or instructor and ask what they recommend.

I think I'm just going to pick up a paddle holster from bass pro this weekend. Probably a Blackhawk.

Check with the school. There are reports on "the web" some training schools no longer allow the BlackHawk Serpa holsters in their classes.

Why would they ban a holster? This is just a basic training class. Not tactical or competition minded.

See post #15 on the THR thread.

I've got no experience with the Serpa or any of these classes, but I'm aware of the discussions that have surrounded this holster.

I would check with your instructor for equipment recommendations.

They should allow the current Bianchi UM84 military rig for the M9. After all, IT IS THE CURRENT ISSUE MILITARY HOLSTER, and our troops use it in combat. Does it get anymore REAL than that? If they do not allow it, they are in some kind of fantasy state of mind. Especially if G.I.'s want to take the course and use issue equipment.

I did speak to the instructor, Scott Caylor of www.learn2shoot.net

He said I don't need anything fancy. And no bans on holsters at this point.

That's good.

The class should be a good experience and you should get a feel for how whatever you pick works during the class. That should guide you for further purchases.

Good luck, be safe, and have fun.

Thanks! I'm super excited. And Thank you for the advice. I'll be back after I take my chl looking for holster advice again.

Bianchi and the Wilderness belt is a nice combination with a great deal of versatility. I did have to send my belt back once to get the size up. :uhoh:
Too much Sam Adams me thinks.
Can't go wrong with the right Kydex and a heavy leather belt. Mag holders are a dime a dozen in balistic nylon or Kydex.
