I was given some WC-844(surplus military powder) and was told that it cross references with H335 to try in my 223 and 308 for general plinking and was pleased with the results. Hodgdon list a load for H335 for the 45/70 and was just wondering if anyone here had used WC-844 in 45/70 or in other calibers besides 223/308 and what were the results.

IMO H335 is too slow a powder for the 45-70 but if there's data in the manual it's probably safe. Only thing is even though there's data it doesn't mean it will work well. I usually use H4198 which is quite a bit faster than H335.

Hey, give it a try and see what the results are. The worst that can happen is the ammo isn't accurate and you don't use that powder in the 45-70 again. Who knows, you might come up with a load that works great in your rifle...
