And Obama replied, "I believe in the Second Amendment. It does provide for Americans the right to bear arms for their protection, for their safety, for hunting, for a wide range of uses." I thought his answer was very reasonable and seemed to respect the RKBA and also that he understands that enforcing the laws that are already on the books is the way to stem the tide of arms flowing across the border.

CBS NEWS March 3, 2011 2:47 PM, "Obama: I believe in the Second Amendment" Posted by Brian Montopoli

"The Second Amendment in this country is part of our Constitution and the president of the United States is bound by our Constitution, so I believe in the Second Amendment. It does provide for Americans the right to bear arms for their protection, for their safety, for hunting, for a wide range of uses. That does not mean that we cannot constrain gun runners from shipping guns into Mexico."

Gee, I thought "ATF Operation Gunrunner" was shut down after those recent CBS News reports.

No mention of the reporter's question that elicited that answer though.

Lest we forget last time this was brought up:

April 17, 2009 "Obama, Calderón: Assault-gun ban could curb border violence" CNN

MEXICO CITY, Mexico (CNN) -- Reviving a ban on assault weapons and more strictly enforcing existing gun laws could help tamp down drug violence that has run rampant on the U.S.-Mexican border, President Obama said Thursday.

"We can respect and honor the Second Amendment while dealing with assault weapons," Obama says in Mexico.

Speaking alongside Mexican President Felipe Calderón, Obama said he has "not backed off at all" on a campaign pledge to try to restore the ban. It was instituted under President Clinton and allowed to lapse by President George W. Bush.

With Mexican drug money sucking in black market guns from all corners of the globe, an American gun ban would do diddle for correcting the problems in Mexico. But Mexican drug violence is a perfect excuse to revive the assault weapon ban, the anti-gunners dream, assault weapon being such an elastic term.

Can you really believe what he says? By the way, if your interested, I can sell you the Brooklyn Bridge for a good price!
Don't kid yourself, if he could disarm every gun owner in America, he would do it. That would remove the fear of the government knowing that we would be left helpless against the society he wants to create.

He, like many politicians, is not to be taken at face value.

He would veto the whole US Constitution if he could. ;)

Carl N. brown is right, Mexico will get guns from all over the world. If we had zero guns in the USA, they would never run out there.

Yeah would love to do a follow up question for the reporter...How has your masses being unarmed against the cartels worked for ya? How well has being unarmed against the thugs in your own country worked for you?

In the reporters defense, he CAN question the US, our Constitution, our President, Congress, etc he can even stand on his chair and declare we are a horrendous nation of turds. And guess what, we will be made at him and rally against him on the internet, but we won't kill him or anyone else for it. He will NEVER get that same treatment if he did the same line of questioning against the cartels in his own country. He and his entire family would be dead within a week.

If he had the power, he would veto the 2nd Amendment. Remember during the campaign when he tried to get gunowners to support him by saying "I'm not going to take away your guns; I don't have the votes to do it."

He can't veto it because he still needs to pass Nation-wide Constitutional Carry! :D ;)

I think the real question is why can't Mexico handle it's own
damn problems?

The idea that a group of multi-Billionaire Drug lords, you know the guys who smuggle, steal, and murder for and about drugs, will follow gun laws of the USA, let alone any other country, is pure lunacy. :fire:

They can afford to import guns from any place they choose. They can afford it. Of course if the ATF is choosing to be the primary supplier as a matter of government policy, what can any of us in the United States say.

Simply amazing. Don't worry, these same folks want to be the only source of healthcare for you and me too. Of course they will do a good job. :banghead:

Go figure.

While I like what he said, I fear it was merely a gesture to save face and keep what little respect he has left.

He, like many politicians, is not to be taken at face value.

Absolutely! Elimination of him and his supporters in the next election, will go a long way towards protecting the Constitution and the Second Amendment.

The ATF sting operation to highlight criminal gun sales to mexico caused the death of a Federal Agent because of their misguided zeal to allow a weapon to be attained by an illegal alien. Another example of the incompetence of this administration.
Don't get me going.

If he had the power, he would veto the 2nd Amendment.

Some people just can't stand it when their ideological stances aren't vindicated.

I for one am glad that our current president, if not exactly pro-gun, has been ambivalent to gun control initiatives. Remember President Reagan? The Republican hero? He signed a bill that created the full-auto registry that was subsequently closed. If Reagan had only been as "pro-gun" as Obama, I'd have a closet of full-auto rifles right now.

I don't think its right to accuse the President of lying about this. Everyone says "Oh if only he meant that", but you don't know he doesn't Just because he may not be "pro-gun" doesn't mean that he doesn't believe in the second amendment. My mother is not "pro-gun", but she believes in the rights that are afforded to us by the second amendment for instance. It isn't some "You're either with us or you're against us" thing.

Enough politics! I'm closing this before that statement gets the response it deserves.
