essayons21 March 7, 2011, 01:31 PM It looks like someone has removed/ cut off the grenade launching adapter that was originally part of the barrel. Most likely to make it comply with a state or federal AWB. EDIT: On further examination the shape looks a bit different from what would remain if the launcher were cut off, but its hard to tell from the picture. I'm stumped. LKB3rd March 7, 2011, 01:42 PM The portion hanging off the bottom is where the bayonet attaches. The grenade launcher looks sort of like a brake or flash hider, and it is gone on that rifle. Roughneck08 March 7, 2011, 02:01 PM Bayonet attachment. lee-enfield shooter March 7, 2011, 02:45 PM I knew that the part on the bottom was the bayonet attachment. Thanks. shiftyer1 March 7, 2011, 03:07 PM I looks to me as if the launcher was cut off but not all of it. The launcher is ribbed and maybe they used a rib to cut straight? Leaving a little behind. essayons21 March 7, 2011, 03:27 PM That's what I though at first, but then I noticed that on Yugo SKS's where the barrel merges into the grenade launcher is a sharp 90 degree angle, where the photo shows a ~45 degree flare. Unless there is another model of SKS grenade launcher I am unaware of, I am not an SKS expert. shiftyer1 March 7, 2011, 03:38 PM Ok now I have it figured out, but I don't know the correct terminology. Before the piece where the bayonet locks into is another part that is flared like in the picture. This is where it's been cut. essayons21 March 7, 2011, 04:41 PM Here is a picture of a Yugo SKS with the grenade launcher removed. Where is the flare? Stolen from surplusrifle.com http://www.surplusrifle.com/shooting2005/grlaunchremove/graphics/l/6.jpg A better picture from the OP would certainly help. shiftyer1 March 7, 2011, 04:54 PM See right behind where the bayonet would lock, the thing with the retaining clip, A 1/2 inch in front of the sights. On mine it's flared just like the op's pic. shiftyer1 March 7, 2011, 05:03 PM lets see if this workshttp://farm6.static.flickr.com/5295/5507557420_5fc shiftyer1 March 7, 2011, 05:05 PM http://i614.photobucket.com/albums/tt227/shiftyer1/IMAG0030.jpg shiftyer1 March 7, 2011, 05:07 PM Not sure what i'm doin wrong? shiftyer1 March 7, 2011, 07:17 PM http://http://i614.photobucket.com/albums/tt227/shiftyer1/IMAG0030.jpg shiftyer1 March 7, 2011, 07:20 PM http:// shiftyer1 March 7, 2011, 07:22 PM oops shiftyer1 March 7, 2011, 07:32 PM ok i finally got the pic up, sorry about all the screw ups. That was a learning experience lee-enfield shooter March 7, 2011, 08:01 PM the part where the metal ring is, just in front of that. right where the end of that metal piece is. shiftyer1 March 7, 2011, 08:16 PM http://i614.photobucket.com/albums/tt227/shiftyer1/IMAG003011.jpg I wish I knew what those metal pieces were called it would be alot easier to explain :) But the red line should help. It's hard for me to tell from the original pic, it may actually be cut where the retaining ring is? A little to the right of the red line. lee-enfield shooter March 7, 2011, 09:02 PM right at the red line
