I despise Clinton but you can't blame this dufus on him. POTUS doesn't get to appoint state judicial officials.

His lawyer said defending the charges would have been too expensive for Hamley, who runs his own exporting business.

There's a burgeoning international market for Barbra Streisand?

But that doesn't stop the current administration for blaming him for everything from angry cow disease to rainy Sundays.

Ever notice how nobody mentions how the Reagan appointees like Thomas and Scalia are issuing minority rulings that (if implemented) would dismantle the constitution and time warp us all back 50 years as soon they get that one extra swing vote they need to get into the majority? Oh well...

Former Judge Hamley is guilty of overly simplifying the complex dynamics that take place in an abusive domestic household. There have been studies that show that many abused wives were abused by their spouses during the dating process. Does that mean they like being "smacked" around? No. But it does show their perception of what is normal in a man-woman relationship is abnormal.

Many women remain in abusive relationships because they are willing to believe the abuse is their fault. If they just worked a little harder, behaved a little better, their abusive spouse will change and become their long hoped for Prince Charming. It rarely works out that way as abusive, domineering, and controlling men are attracted to women who are willing to take the blame for their shortcomings.

I once arrested a man for hitting his pregnant wife in the stomach. The only reason I heard about it was the woman went to the doctor, fearing the fetus was harmed. I asked him after giving him the Miranda warning why he hit his wife. He told me he was the head of he household and she questioned something he did or said. I am not sure what happened afterwards, but I am sure she welcomed him back into the house after he got out of jail, promising to try a little harder to please him.

Just wait and see how Breyer, Souter, Ginsburg, Kennedy, O'Connor, and Stevens will rule on 2nd when it inevitably reaches their way...and guess who will render the minority opinion once again...

I thought Thomas and Scalia were the good guys. What did they do that's destructive to the constitution???

They haven't been able to implement any thing yet because they have been in the minority opinion of every major ruling by a 5-4 vote. When that last vote swings by a new consercvative appointee, we will be back in the good old days of the Louisiana 50's where every day in public school begins with all kids being forced to say the Lord's Prayer and abortions will only be legal for rich women who can fly to France to get them. Scalia is a Roman catholic and Thomas is also Catholic and raised and educated in Catholic schools. Picture having the Pope for president and that's a good approximation of where these guys want to take the country. FWIW, that's why the demos are fighting all of Bush's judges so hard. They know all the major rulings are falling along party lines at a 5-4 vote and if he succeeds in packing one more "Reagan style" judge onto the court, the whole thing flips over.

,

OK, but our founding fathers ran an extra ten miles to safeguard our government from being driven towards religion. I agree with them on that and I do not trust Scalia and Thomas who are liars and claimed they have no pre-conceived opinions on prayer, abortion, and all the other religous hot button topics. Their voting records prove otherwise as well as documents they authored. I don't want a court run by people with a religous agenda, and I sure don't want it being run fom the vatican.

*laugh* Somehow I doubt it, but alarmism isn't too terribly unhealthy.
Since this is a firearms related board ...
Are you at all concerned about the vote staying more "liberal" with regards to firearms issues?

hahahaahahaha, yes, they'll post a Swiss Gurdsman in front of every bedroom door. I thought this Cathophobia died with the election of JFK. Alas, we're still in the days of Al Smith...

bountyhunter,

Thank you for replying to my question. I see that we fundamentally disagree about some things there. Since Roe v. Wade, the Establishment clause and the Free Excercise clause are explicitly off limits for this forum, I will just say that, in my opinion, you misrepresent what Scalia and Thomas intend, and agree to disagree on those subjects.

On the general subject of Thomas and Scalia, what I have seen is that they are two of the strongest justices in the area of defending the Constitution, and I don't think there's any danger that they will "dismantle the constitution."
