Aim point, etc? Looking for that style optics... I don't shoot much past 150 yards. What mount/dot you guys like for the money?

What's the use? Is this a rifle used by a cop on duty? Goofing around at the range? HD / SHTF?

If a patrol rifle or HD / SHTF, I wouldn't skimp. Genuine EOtech or Aimpoint.

Playing at the range, just about anything will fill the bill.

Use dictates gear.

However for a good all around optic for a good price look at the Aimpoint PRO. (Patrol Rifle Optic.)
It is an Aimpoint Comp3 that comes in a mount and ready for your rifle. Price is just over 400 for the entire package.

The Aimpoint PRO is a pretty good deal.

If it's just a range toy, or if the budget's really tight, a Vortex Strikefire red-only is a very nice red dot for $150. I just wouldn't recommend it for duty use, because it's made in China with unknown reliability and durability. The ones I have have never failed though.

I went with the Vortex Sparc @ $200 http://swfa.com/Vortex-SPARC-Red-Dot-Sights-C2988.aspx.

I've played around with the cheaper ones and have been disappointed. It is a good compromise for me. The dot is small enough to allow me to easily keep 1.5"-2" groups out to 100 yards. I have not tried it at longer ranges.

They are as yet unproven in tough conditions, but so far all of the upper end Vortex products have proven to be pretty good. We will see.

what about a lucid hd7? Haven't used one, but they look intriguing.

that said, I just pulled my millet red dot and put on a tasco 3-9x40 I had in a drawer and my 10 shot groups went from 7" to 1.5" off a sandbag. 3x is ok offhand, but I'd prefer something with less magnification for rolling cans. I'd like to find a solid 1-4x20 scope for less than $200.

I've also had prety good luck with the truglo red dot for 30 bucks. dot's about 6MOA and fuzzy, but it's held up on a couple AR's and sks'. Fine for cans, bad for paper.

I picked up a Bushnell Trophy 1x32 red/green T dot sight for under $150. At the time I couldn't justify the cost of an Aimpoint/Eotech class red dot.
