Thanks men, I stopped at a gun shop last week and it was sitting there among two dozen modern black military stlye rifles. This shop doesn't sell much but modern firearms, I stopped to get some shotshells and while looking around I spotted it, It stuck out like a sore thumb, It didn't belong among all that black plastic twenty first century ordnance, so I asked the guy behind the counter for a look. It was on consignment along with some other guns they were about to put out. He showed me a Spencer carbine, and a Winchester 73. It seems the owner had passed away and his wife brought them back to the shop where he origionaly bought them. They all looked unfired and the salesman said he knew the guy and he shot them very little and cared for them well. The Sharps was unfired. I left the shop and could not get the carbine out of my head. A few days later I went back and the rest is history:D

The 50-70 is one of the easiest cartridges to get accurate loads worked up. The big thing is to know what size bullet you need so slug the bore. Cases and dies are available and you only need one powder, I prefer ffG GOEX.

Have fun, it is a good rifle but a great cartridge!
