I bought a Mossberg 500 a few month back and while shooting it shells would drop out of the magazine tube, this would happen once every 5 times a shell was chambered, half the time a second shell would drop out.

Has anyone else experienced this? I need to contact the factory.

Are you saying the shells would drop past the catch that holds them in the tube, or shells would drop through the two prongs that form the elevator when you pump the action?

Also, did you buy it new? If you bought it used, maybe it needs a good cleaning and lube.

I had a 500 and a 535 do this to me. I never did find out why, but I'll never even touch another 500 because of it.

A guy at the range had a 500 Persuader that did this as well

Try screwing the mag tube in tighter.

That'll solve the problem.
Obviously, Mossberg makes shotguns good enough for the military, so I doubt it's a design flaw.

I've had the problem, and it's due to the magazine tube coming loose. Just tighten it up or else the shell latches won't capture the shell when cycling the action and it falls out of the action. Try some blue loctite.
