My buck

Some of you had heard about the buck I was chasing trying to kill. I had seen him originally between bow and gun season, just caught a glimpse of him as he headed into the brush. Saw him again two weeks ago at 300yds in high wind and all he presented me was a head on chest shot. I passed it that day, thinking in time if I was patient and hunted hard I would find him again. I did this morning, I spotted him about 600yds out with a doe bedded down on the edge of a huge coastal field and just into some regrowth mesquite. A 600yd attempt was out, I had to get closer. The coastal patch is right at 400yds wide, so I just laid down on my belly and crawled across it right to the edge of the brush line where he was standing watch over the bedded doe. I quietly snapped out my harris bipod legs, and eased into a spot I could shoot. They had moved closer to me, so I had a 100yd broadside shot. I put a 160gr trophy bonded bearclaw right through his lungs with the Browning A-bolt Stalker in .280 remington topped with a Tasco world class plus 3-9x44mm. At the shot he stumped 20yds and piled up. He is 13 points, basic 10pt rack with 3 kickers.

I really hunted this deer, no feeder to shoot him out from under, no protein block, he'd been avoiding all that stuff and skirting the edges, he rarely crossed a sendero or anything. Just wanted to share it with all of you first.

Steve

Congrats!!!
Man, what a feeling!! Finally getting that deer you've been hunting for a while is one of the greatest thrills of hunting.
I've been hunting a deer for about 2 yrs now and he's never given me a chance to get a shot. He's tricky one & a spawn from hell:evil:

Nice! Makes the Michigan 10 point I got this year look tinny.

Roadkill , " it's very careful " , yes they don't get big and old by being dumb. One year a friend and I drove past our hunting area a day before the season, a huge buck stood at the side of the road grinning at us .We drove by a day after the season, the same buck stood in the same spot grinning at us again !

Obviously, someone is supplying this buck with a copy of your state regulations. If you want to get him, you're going to have to cut off his information supply.

Nice buck, St. Gunner!
