I always have a handgun on me when I venture into the desert. Sometimes I also have a rifle with me too. It al depends where I go and how far I decide to explore. I try to match the handgun and long gun based on need. If plinking is the main goal, the rifle will be a rimfire and the handgun something with a little more oomph!
Once in awhile I try to match the guns by theme. If I decide to take a lever action carbine, the handgun will be a single action revolver. I call it my "cowboy" theme. These two guns seem to go together like peanut butter and jelly.
Do any of you ever do that? Try to match guns by some sort of theme?
What other handgun/long gun themes can you guys come up with? In other words, which gun combos seem to go together?

I got a Hipoint .45acp carbine and pistol combination for my Jeep guns. Knock em around, get em dusty when I am out Jeepin in the Arizona desert. Sometimes throw in my 870HD gun as well.

If I'm big game hunting no matter what my long arm is, my sidearm is a 44 mag. This is also true for most upland/woods bird hunting as it's often in bear country and birdshot is useless against a bear met up close.
If I'm antelope hunting damn near any handgun I own might be on my hip as long as it's centerfire.
WW2 combo = Kar98k + 9mm Luger (though I have to admit the original NCO leather rig with ammo pouches, hoster and bayonet is too much weight without the suspenders.) Only time I've carried them both was for a short film, tho I've humped the '98 all over Utah badlands.
WW2 combo 2 = 1903A3 + 1917 New Service
Something old, something new combo = Colt 6920 + Colt 1911 (not an A1)
2/3 of a three gun match = Colt 6920 + Browning Hi-Power clone.
Plinkers/Prarie dogging = Marlin 995 + Ruger Mk2

If I carry a combo, it's almost always my Marlin .357 lever gun and a Smith and Wesson K-frame, either my Model 19 or Model 66. That way, I only need to carry two types of cartridge: plinking and serious.

Not sure if this would qualify as a "theme", but here it goes........
