I'm considering switching full time to a .45ACP for a carry gun.

Does anyone have pics showing the size differences between a glock 36, kimber pro or ultra carry and a Kahr K9?

Also, which of the guns would you prefer as a carry gun? Assuming you could shoot all the same.

Steve

I don't have any pictures, but these are very different guns, in weight, capacity, size, and trigger. Try them all, especially if you can find a store that will let you try some holsters out, before buying. Lots of guns that feel great in the hand and shoot like a dream don't carry or conceal well at all. The Kahr K9 is the smallest and thinnest gun you mention, but it is not a .45 ACP. I assume you're asking about it as a comparison.

A steel Kimber weighs 35-40 ounces, an aluminum framed one about 30. Compact Kimbers weigh less, 25-35 ounces.

A Kahr K9 weighs about 23 ounces. A polymer version is lighter, the P9.

A Glock 36 weighs 20 or 21 ounces.

I forget who took the picture. Nice though.

Don't forget the SIG P245. I got my first one today, just to try it out. I've used the P220 for some time, and love it: if the P245 is as accurate and reliable, it'll be a winner! It's certainly in the same size class as the Glock 36, and feels more comfortable in my hand (especially after 50 to 100 rounds of ammunition!).

I definately don't think the pictures Sprout posted are to relative scale... The Kahr is certainly smaller and WAY thinner than the Kimber.

I own a Kahr P9 Covert (P9 sized slide, PM9 sized grip) and the only Glock I own is a G23 but I know Oleg has a review/comparison of the G26 and the Kahr P9 or PM9. As far as concealability between the two (the G23 and the Kahr)... there is a pretty big difference to me. The Kahr can pretty much always be concealed including when only wearing dress slacks, tucked dress shirt and a tie while the G23 is a bit more suited to casual dress or formal dress with a coat of some sort.

The Kimber is quite wide. Much wider than the G36. A lot of folks don't like the feel of the grip of the G36 but I've never had a problem with it and the limited shooting I've done with it has led me to think my next Glock with either be a G36 or a G26. Or maybe eventually both.
