My son inherited a Remington ADL in 300 Win Mag. My question is when was this rifle made the earliest ? I understand that Winchester produced the 300 in 1963..His grand father told me that he hunted Moose in the fifties in Nova Scotia with a 300 Winchester...I am trying to straighten this story out. Thanks for any knowledge:confused:

Post the serial number, minus the last couple digits and you should be able to track it down pretty close to its manufacture date.

Go to Remington Society and decode the barrel date codes....FWIW...The 700 didn't come out until 1962.

Lots of rifles were made in 300 H&H magnum before the 300 Winchester magnum was developed. This may explain the confusion. Lots of guys just say "300 mag" without specifying which 300 mag they mean. The 300 win mag is the most common today and many just ASSUME that is the one being discussed.

Go to www.Remingtonsociety.com You can look up the date code on the barrel and determine when the gun was made.
