Jewell it or not. A poll.

Bought a Blued (black) Kimber Custom II, now I've got the urge to personalize it like I've done with the rest of my guns. Can't have it looking like all the others now can I?
Figure on going with the black & chrome look; polish the trigger until it shines; add a pair of engraved Alumagrips like these:

Maybe get some of the silver inlay paint from Brownells and highlight "Kimber" on the slide.
The one thing I can't decide if I want to do or not is to have the breech jewelled, like this:

Looks good? Too pimp? Who cares?

It's your pistol do what ya want with it. Be prepared to hear other peoples comments on your pimp gun. Me I want the entire pistol to be the same color, black.

As with anything it can be done in excess and in the wrong place. Jewling is a common practice in the workings of high grade guns. Aside from looks it has a practical purpose, it keeps oil on the surface of the part which aides in preventing wear. If you jewled the entire surface of your pistol that would be more in the domain of "pimp" class, if however, you used restraint and had the action parts jeweled and perhaps the part of the barrel you see through the ejector port that would be more in the lines of fine firearms class. In the end, I guess I should have voted for the "it's your gun do what you want" catagory, because that's what it comes down to.

Guess I'd like to see one close up that had been jeweled. The photo I posted isn't the best in the world. If I were to have it done it would be only on the chamber portion thats visible.
I like the look on a rifle bolt but have never actually seen pistol that had been done.
The website I borrowed the pic from had another gun that had the entire barrel, hammer, trigger, slide stop & thumb safety jewelled. Now that was definately way too pimp.

I don't think Jewell makes a trigger for 1911's. :)

The only customizing that should be done to a pistol is to beat on it with a framing hammer. This way you will not be concerned over the first little scratch it picks up in training.:D

The problem with jeweling the breech of the barrel is that it is a working surface, contacting the slide in recoil. Shoot it a while and the jeweled pattern will be scuffed and ugly.
