My favorite gunsmith recommended these to me today. We were talking about a build project and I had brought up McMillan. He said these were very good as well.

Anyone here have any experience/dealings with them?

They seem highly regarded as an upgrade stock here http://www.snipershide.com/

What type of rifle, and how will it be used? No personal experience, but I've read mixed reviews. I've used McMillan, Brown Precision, Bansners and Garrett in the past with good results from most. I looked at the Manners stocks and decided to pass on them for a hunting rifle because of the weight.

They advertise their "Ultralight" at 27-28oz. That ain't very light. Most walnut stocks are 30-32oz and everyone else makes their ultralights at 16-20oz.

I'm sure their stocks are pretty good quality, but for just a bit more you can get a McMillan hunting stock that will be at least as good, but 3/4 lb to 1 lb lighter.

If you want a heavier tactical/varmit type stock the HS-Precision is very highly regarded for around $350 vs the $450-$1000 prices on the Manners.

If you're in the market for a replacement stock, there are more than a couple of good brands out there, with Manners and McMillan probably being at the top of the heap.

My gunsmith also likes McMillan stocks, but really likes the HS Precision stocks in terms of bang for the buck. The stocks are well made and have an integral aluminum bedding block built in, which the Manners (available as an option, but is not full length) and McMillans do not have.

What sort of rifle are you thinking about upgrading? I just got a Bell & Carlson stock (M40 model) that cost all of about $210. I find myself liking it more and more as I continue to shoot with it. It also has an integral bedding block.

Take note, that with the stocks like Manners and McMillan, a professional bedding job is also recommended (although not absolutely necessary), which could cost you $100 or more to have done.

On the other hand, if cost wasn't a concern, I wouldn't think twice about buying a McMillan and taking comfort in knowing that I have what is arguably the best stock going.

As far as the HS Precision and B&C stocks go, I'd say it is a toss up and depends a lot on whether you like the exagerated palm swell that HSP uses. Personally, I like the HSP palm swell for shooting off of a bench and prefer the B&C for shooting prone. For what it's worth, I just opened up the channels on a HS Precison and a Bell & Carlson stock and I found it a lot harder to remove material from the B&C stock. With the B&C stock, it felt like I was removing material from fiberglass or carbon fiber. It came off in the form of very fine powder and slowy. With the HSP, I got the distinctive odor of epoxy and it came off pretty easily in small clumps.

while i don't own one, most of the guys i shoot with have manners stocks, so i've got the play with them a good bit. i don't know anyone who is unhappy with a recent manners stock (though i've heard minor grumbling from their very early days)

They have a pretty cool 90% carbon fiber stock I've got my eye on now. I will probably buy one when I get some spare cash. They are nice about letting you put a short pic rail on the stock instead of the old sling swivel, to mount stuff like atlas bipods. and they use the "terry cross hardware" for their cheek rest which is different than macmillan's. the former is fixed and a little annoying to adjust. the latter is easy to adjust with just thumbscrews but annoying in that the thumbscrews will adjust themselves when you're not looking.

before you give $ to HS Precision, google "Lon Horiuchi hs precision".

Yeah, for just that reason I'll never pay for anything by HS precision.

Tom manners makes one hell of a stock, and is a good guy to boot. I have had my t4 for a few years now, and have a t5 on order for a savage project. The customer service is top notch, and I see no reason to buy a stock from anyone else. Tom also donated a t5 to the last match I was at.

A note about the cost. I see people complain about spending 4-500 dollars on a stock, and I think this is a little misguided. The stock is a one time fixed cost item, and will keep rewarding you for as long as you keep the rifle. A cheaper decent stock will still cost you 150-200ish. That extra few hundred dollars will be eaten up pretty fast on a few boxes of ammo. Cheap stocks are for safe queens.
