I'm looking at these parts kits from sarco.com, they don't list manufaturer of the parts they just call the "GI" parts. I'm just looking for a cheap kit to plink with.

The "bolt modified to semi-auto" makes it sound like it's used parts stripped from M-16s. I'd be interested in who made the barrel, and whether it's new or used.

A friend has bought several, over the years.Sometimes they offer new parts, but they usually say if they are new or used.As they are GI parts, they could be any make/manufacture.We have been happy enough with them. Lightman

I've had problems with Sarco's M1 parts kits in the past. They said the parts were GI, but you could see that the hammers were cast copies. They took them back without any complaints, though.

Don't assume they modified the bolt carriers. I suspect the "modified" GI bolt carrier is just new manufacture. SARCO is a marketer and retailer, not a machine shop milling parts. It would be expensive and counter productive to actually modify existing full auto bolts when they sell openly on the market - for more. Demand is that high, they are completely legal to use.

I built my AR with a full auto carrier, milspec and nitrided. I don't see SARCO spending money just to machine them - if the kits even came with them originally.

Generally, SARCO's reputation was selling genuine GI parts from disassembled guns. The current GI used parts on the market have been said to be from Guatemalan issue guns. That's good if true, they were likely FN or Colt originally, and they are not getting diverted to Cartel hands. Most of the M16's/M4's in Mexico are their Government Issue, not straw purchased in Texas. Maybe somebody woke up in Homeland and now requires Central America to trade back one for one.

Until SARCO implements a major computerization and handles internet sales with a checkout basket, etc., they won't be a primary source of parts in the future. Being forced to buy a Shotgun news just to get a better look a parts pricing, and then dealing with the old school ordering system isn't the way I bought any parts in this build. More like, check the basket box, move to check out, CC the transaction, and get a tracking number. That takes all of five minutes on the net, no trip to a major newstand to pick up a newsprint version with 90 day lead times and high prices.

They need to step up to the future or it won't include them.
