Legal to build an AK in NY?

I'd like to build an AK from a parts kit and a receiver flat.

I looked into this a few years ago, and I'm confident that I can do it.
I recently got the opportunity to buy a Romy parts kit for ridiculously cheap, and this has rekindled my interest.

Only problem is I live in NY, and I'm not sure about whether or not this is legal.

It seems that I may legally own an AK here as long as it meets the requirements of the AWB (the AWB did not sunset here :( )

All the reading I did on this was during the AWB, so I'm already familiar with the non-evil components and the US made parts requirement.

It would appear from the research I've done so far that there's nothing stopping me from doing this, but... well we all know what NY gun laws are like and I just wanted to double check before I pull the trigger on the parts kit (pun intended)

Also, I understood that I can own 'high capacity' 30 round magazines here, as long as they were manufactured before the ban, but for some reason, I can't find a single website that will ship a 30 round AK magazine to NY.

Is this just the dealers being over cautious, or am I wrong about being able to own pre-ban 30 round mags?

EDIT: I live in New York State, not NYC

AS long as the mag is pre 1994 it is fine. Most if not all com bloc steel mags are pre 80s. Most dealers are just being cautious and rightly so as the ATF will jump on you. Age cannot really be proven as usually mags are not serialed. But they should be fine, If not go to Penn or vermont and pick up a couple pre bans.

You can build in NY,just make it legal.
Shave your bayo lug,and pin/weld the slant brake.
How many mags you want? I might have a few I
could sell you. ;)

I might just take you up on those mags, let me get my parts kit and other bits together and then I'll PM you :)

Does the 'preban' thing mean I could even own a drum magazine providing it was made before the ban?

Basically, if the mag is steel, it's pre-ban. For the drums, a Chinese drum is for-sure pre-ban.
