This was a lot of fun. One of our readers sent me some of his combustible paper cartridges to test.

Love shooting C&B sixguns.

Very nice! I plan on using paper cartridges in my .36 brass framed navy.

Did you use any grease over the cartridges? Or were Wonder Wads used under the conicals (over powder wads)?
BTW...just subscribed to Guns of the Old West & enjoying it.

I didn't grease over the chambers. The conicals have a lube ring in the bullet.

I did watch the vid....three times. I assumed he knew how they were constructed, and the photos of the conicals appeared to have a hard lube on them....

Thats great!

I have a dummy cartridge box in one of my display boxes, but I would like to buy some of those if they ever become available for the 1860 and the 1851 Navy.

That's really neat. I like that packaging a lot.

I really didn't do the packaging justice in the video. I think I did better in my column. He has three different packaging styles under the brown paper. The coolest are the wooden blocks drilled to hold cartridges with 7 holes...6 for cartridges and the seventh for a twist of paper holding six caps.

That's very cool & they look extremely professionally made, you made the Gong sing with each squeeze. :)

I'd be interested in the ballistics of these just to see approximately what our Great Grand Fathers had to deffend them selves with during those time periods.

I should have chronographed them. It was soooo bloody cold that day that I got lazy...wanted to get in out of the cold.
