Seeking oppinions on the old/new lever action pistols, e.g. Rossi Ranch Hand, Puma Bounty Hunter, etc.

cool looking, yes
poor substitute for a handgun
poor substitute for a carbine/rifle

but sometimes "a guy just has to do what a guy has to do"
(hey, I have some novelty guns, too, just not one of those)
if you want it, get it, have fun with it, just don't expect it to be what it's not

Agree with Old Fool.
I have both.

The Bounty Hunter is inherently accurate, the Rossi OK but not quite as accurate.

The concept is generating unrealistic expectations among people who think it'd be great for home defense, hunting, bear defense, etc.
The reality is there are many better choices for all those applications.

The mare's leg is slow to operate and realatively heavy.
It does fire a bullet, so it CAN serve as a gun for whatever use you'd want to put it to, but not as efficiently as either a rifle or a handgun.
They offer an increase in muzzle velocity, hard to hang onto to with heavy loads.

As a toy- super cool. :)

I own a Rossi Ranch Hand in .44 Magnum and it is a fun gun to shoot. I agree with others on the thread that it may not be the most practical firearm, but it is what it is. Regardless it still gets a lot of attention at the range and a lot of head scratching from folks. Fun fun fun.

Completely impractical, but kind of neat.

If practicality was a consideration, half the weapons on the market wouldn't exist.

To me it is neither fish nor fowl. Too big to be a handgun and too short to be a good rifle. Aside from the 'novelty" aspect, I see no reason for them. Are they more accurate than a tradition handgun? Or a rifle?

"My wife often says the same about me...."

odd... my wife says just the opposite about me
(and after 37 years, it almost sounds like a compliment)

Like most guns, they are only as accurate as the shooter.
Personally, no matter what I was armed with I would not like to face one in the hands of a competent shooter.
