Thinking about getting a 9mm carbine, but need some help deciding. Was looking at three different ones, the Hi-Point, Storm, or Kel-Tec. What do you guys think?
Thanks,
Shade

I've heard some good things about the Hi-Point, but it only takes single stack ten round magazines.
If they made on that took Glock 17 mags I would walk out the door right now and pick one up from the local gun store.

Id get the glock mag keltec if you can find one(doubt you will) the folding feature is really cool and 33rd glock mags.
the storm is too expensive for what it is although a great gun.
The hi-point is good but the lack of hicap magazines is a bummer.

The Hi-Point warranty seems great but no high cap mag.

Suomi...
classic styling, inexpensive 71 round drums, reliable, accurate, a real looker, will hold it value better than any listed in the OP...

One of my personal favorites is the Mech Tech conversion, I have one for my Glock and it works perfectly with the 33 round mags. I also really like my MPA 71 but they are discontinued and tough to find.

The Suomi is nice for the price; I like the traditional sub-gun styling. I picked up a wood stocked Uzi carbine for about the same price. It's reliable with pretty much every 9mm brand I've tried, and surprisingly accurate at 50 yards.

that Suomi is cool but what about parts availability(now and future)?
After a little research I may pick one up this year.

I've seen Suomi complete parts kits for sale lately, with torch cut receiver per BATFE regs, for about $90-$150.

I had a KT Sub 2000. It was surprisingly accurate and fun. I loved being able to fold it.
It also needs an adapter to take optics.
If I had made a smarter purchase I'd still have it. I'd have gotten a mag release that matched my Sig p226, but sadly, I got one for the S&W 59. That proved troublesome as I had problems finding hi-cap mags (that worked anyway).
I have enjoyed shooting the Hi-Points, but haven't purchased one because of the mag limitations.
Taurus has a carbine coming it. It looks pretty cool.
Maybe someday, I'll have another.

If one can be found the Ruger PC9 is very handy & reliable. Mine has an after market scope mount from Jack Weigand but they also came with a ghost ring sight.

A buddy of mine just picked up one of the Hi-Points, and just put a cheap red-dot on it and a laser (came with the gun). It is a fun little gun to shoot, and pretty accurate. We didn't have any jams of ftf out of probably 200-300 rounds we put through it. It's not the best looking gun in the world, and yes, you will spend alot of time reloading the 10rd. magizine (some company makes a 15 round one, but I have read some bad reviews on it). Luckily the mag is easy to load up even on the 10th one. Imo you can't beat it for the price range it's in. The Beretta is a nice gun don't get me wrong, but you def pay for it. Hadn't shot the Kel-Tec tho.

I have a keltec sub 200, Marlin camp 9, and have had uzi and hipoint carbines. There are R?uger carbines out there in 9mm and .40, i almost bought one but decided not to since I had committed to S&W 59 series mags with the other 2 9mm carbines mentioned above as well as a kwltec P11, S&W 5906, and S&W 915.
The keltec and Marlin are greatly superior to the uzi and the hi point isn't even close.
The promag 15 rd mags are notorious for being unreliable and are also single stack. If they made their rifle to take ANY hi cap mag I'd have one.

I always thought the little Marlin Camp carbines were kind of neat, but they apparently had a lot of plastic parts that weren't too durable under use and some cleaning solvents, so they're not in production anymore.

I have a KT S2000 and I won't be selling it anytime soon. It is alot of fun and extremely concealable. 4-1/2lbs and folds to 16" long and it has been reliable and accurate. Mine takes the Glock mags so I can use 10rd up to 33 rd mags in it. Very versatile.

The factory buffer is crap and they benefit from having the recoil spring upgraded. Both parts are available from blackjack. I also installed a folding stock and red dot scope on mine. It is completely reliable with all ammo types and extremely accurate.

The mag thing and cost is the deal maker for me. The K-T for under $300 plus the ability to use my reliable pistol mags.
The Ruger would be nice but they are running around $500 with the Marlins not far behind plus factory mags for either cost more than Glock mags.
As has been said with the HiPoint, single stack 10 rd mags won't get it for a carbine for me and any ProMag is a failure waiting to happen.

I have a KT sub 2000 in 40 S&W, Glock mags. It is a neat little carbine. The only problems I have had is the front sight sucks, hard to see, and it is difficult to get a sight picture with shooting muffs on. They hit the stock.....chris3

I have shot both the kel tec and the hi points carbines both in 9mm and the sub 200 is a bit of more accurate and with the hi cap mags is great fun at the range.

My shooting buddy Mike bought the HiPoint when they were new, it never got past the 4th round.
The gun store exchanged it for a new one. The second one shot a few hundred rounds before stopping.
The gun store took that one back and refunded the money,
minus the $25 our state charges for the background check on EACH rifle.
Perhaps the mistake was buying one when they were brand new.
Owners report greater reliability now.
I have a RIA 9mm upper receiver that works on all my AR15 lowers.
It uses a mag block adapter and Colt 9mm magazines, and 9mm buffer.
$400 for the upper, another $129 for mag block and 5 magazines.
It's not the cheapest option, but...
it's totally bulletproof, rock solid, hundreds of sights and stock options.
The KelTec with Glock magazines would be my second choice.

I own a Hi-Point 995 TS. It's fun, reliable, accurate. The 10 rnd mag is the only drawback. The Promag (?) 15 rnd mag is on my to buy list, but I've read some unfavorable reviews. Still, for around $20 for the mag new, it's worth trying for myself. A 30 round drum mag was in concept development, also from Promag, but it never got off the ground.
I am also going to +1 the Sterling. I am not a fan of CAI, but I've read that their Sterlings are a heck of a lot better than their AK clones. It's on my to-get list as my next 9mm carbine.
Kel-Tec is innovative, too bad their reliability is a bit wonky. The SUB-2000 would be a good option.
The Beretta CX4 Storm is a nice gun too, but the most expensive of the 9mm carbine, next to the AR variants.

I like carbines! In 9mm I have a Hi-Point, Kel-Tec 2000 that takes Glock Mags, and a Bushmaster Carbon 15 AR.
The Hi-Point has proven reliable and accurate. It's not the most attractive firearm and I've picked up one of the CX4 Storm clone ATI stocks for it...maybe I'll even install it someday.
I picked up the Bushy because I wanted something to practice AR shooting at a lower ammo price than .223. Its not as cheap to shoot as a .22 AR but its a bit more realistic a stand it because it at least has some recoil. It's fun to shoot and uses readily available 20 and 30 round magazines. I have several 20 round C Products stainless (black) magazines as I prefer the shorter 20 round magazines. I've had no problems with this carbine and have a lot of fun shooting it.
The Kel-Tec turned out to be the surprise of the bunch. I'd always thought they were pretty cool conceptually and had wanted to pick one up for some time but they are a bear to find! I'd pretty much given up when I went for a ride to visit a gun shop about 45 minutes away. Low and behold they had a couple of the things! I'd wanted one that would take Glock 19 magazines. What they had took the longer Glock 17 mags. I didn't hesitate but picked one up and brought it to the counter. When I mentioned I didn't have any mags as I didn't have a Glock the guy mentioned they had just received the first of the Gen 4 Glock 17s. So I walked out with a Glock 17 with the 3-17 round mags it came with, the Kel-Tec with it's 10 round magazine and a 33 round magazine. I've since purchased more magazines and now have 6-33 and 6-17 round magazines for this pair of guns.
The Kel-Tech is one of the easiest guns I have to shoot well and hit with out to 50 yards or so. (I've not shot it farther). It's so light and handy, feels good in the hands, is simple to operate and accurate. It has also proved to be very reliable...after I sent the locked up bolt to Kel-Tec for replacement! (It didn't shoot at all out of the box but has proved utterly reliable with the replacement bolt)
If I could only keep one of them it would be the Kel-Tec. Size, weight, coolness factor along with reliability and accuracy make it a very viable weapon that's easy to have along.

I have the Keltec Sub 2000 for Glock. I've got almost 700 rounds through it without an issue. Its a great gun to carry in a compact space - I carried it in a briefcase for a couple of protection assignments where we couldn't carry a rifle.

Have you considered any other cartridges? I like my 9mm carbines of course but the available 7.62X25 carbines are great as well. The big advantage to them is the ammo cost. At $90 for 1260 rounds it is tough to beat. There are several carbines available, the Sterlings are nice enough but the Papashaw rules...

I've got a G19 and the matching Kel-Tec 2000. I'll second all the positive things others have said about the dog-ugly little beast. I keep waiting for someone to make an aftermarket stock for the Hi=Point that takes Glock mags. The only drawback to the Sub2000 is the lack of a decent optics solution. The factory tip-off mount sucks and none of the reliable solutions let you fold the rifle anymore. Someone needs to come up with a solution, because all the rifle really needs is a decent red-dot mounting option.

I always felt with the Kel-Tec you had to decide if you wanted a folder or if you wanted optics, there just isn't a good way to have both. If it had a decent rail on it you could use a QD mount on it but it lacks a rail on top.
i don't own one but I have shot my brother's a good bit, can't say I am all that fond of the iron sights either.

I would love to own that gun and maybe someday. 9mm just happens to be one of those calibers I reload/cast for so it won out.
Tokarev is a perfect carbine round unless you are shooting inside(penetration).
Any Idea what FPS those are running out of a rifle barrel?
