My dear wife, who's a quilter extrordinaire, found a beautiful tapestry style bag big enough for my two Old Armies and accessories. Marked down from $18.00 to $5.00 at Hancock Fabric's. Pix to follow. Mercy it's a wonderful addition, and looks age appropriate. Thanks, Don

Hmmm...

Those are "Totes", not "Carpet Bags", they aren't very "historically accurate" if they are going to pass as "Carpet Bags". The old carpet bags had hard handles, either wood or some other substance, and sometimes covered with a leather covering, not canvas handles. They were also sort of triangular in shape from the side view, not square and boxy....

If that's them, I will think I will pass on them.

Aww Shux... Back to the drawing board for my new acquisition financing needs....

Sincerely,

ElvinWarrior... aka... Dave, "EW"

This statement makes it seem like there was an "Official Carpetbag of the Reconstruction". I'm sure there were numerous styles especially when you consider that many fabric products of that era were home-made.

Just thought I'd give those who might like one a heads up. OK, maybe it isn't historically accurate, but mine is really nice, and in that it was only $5.00 and seems heavily made (meant to carry a sewing machine) it will serve me well I think. My wife was, as always, thoughtful to get it for me. The one shown is the one she got me. Don

Don,
Many thanks for the heads up. I've been looking high and low for an affordable range bag that would hold my cased Remington conversion, and this is great. The internal velcro straps hold the Cabela's case perfectly, and the "Victorian camo" design is right on. The handles may not be 19th century materials, but neither are the plastic grips on the Remmy ;).

Smokin Joe,

And I am sure there were rugged ol guys back then that made their own flintlock muskets out of old railroad piping parts and pieces of driftwood... But that doesn't make those kinds of things characteristic of an era, or a style does it?

Junkman,

Nice link, very nice bags too !!! A bit on the pricey side, but heck, I am sure they have a couple in the "bargain basement" on sale... I wouldn't purchase these for re-sale, too pricey, but one or two for my own personal use, if they have a couple on sale, ya, sure, I'd go for one or two on SALE...

Thanks for the link !!! Kewl Link !!!
