My wife is in the process of deciding on her first carry gun, and these are the two that most interest her. Anyone have both who can offer some comparisons?

Or, if you have one or the other, let me know your impressions of them. She is not a new shooter, has shot several handguns and calibers. Interestingly, her favorites when we were choosing a home defense handgun were my SIG P228 and a 5" 1911. Those are obviously too large for the purpose for which she wants this gun.

I had an M&P9c for a while. Very low recoil, and very accurate. Especially for a small gun.

Vote M&P for comfort- only benefit of SR9 is the smaller size but the slide seems bulky in comparison to the frame- I went with the M&P40c :)

depending on her frame the lc9 might be easier to hide for ccw. The M&P9c is a little too large for my wife to sport in the summer, however it is her daily winter carry. Her and I both love the M&P. What a great gun.

M&Pc is double stack, LC9 is single.......

There is a considerable difference in size and weight between these two. Kinda comparing apples and oranges. The S&W is a fine gun, but most people tend to prefer carrying smaller/lighter.

Her proposed carry method might help in determining what will or won't work. That and her size or the size of her purse. You should be able to estimate from there.

Here's a pic of the M&P 9c next to a Kahr CW9 (similar in size to the Ruger). Note that overall height and length are very close but width (and weight and capacity) are the most obvious differences.

Hope this helps.

I like my MP9c and carry it (IWB) anytime I can carry. Shoots well. Its been flawless.

However, the LC9 still peaks my interest if I stand the trigger.

Thanks for all the helpful replies. Local range has the M&P9c in the rental case, so she will be firing that one soon. Wish they had an LC9 so she could do some side-by-side shooting comparisons.

Check out the Kahr P380; pricey but nice.

but gave the Kel-Tec PF9 an "A" rating. Their comments were not too good for the Ruger. My advice , do your homework about the issues for these guns. The Kel-Tec PF9 is one fine gun based on my research. I do not have it but those who do seem to be very much contented with it. My wife carries the Taurus 738 TCP 380 and is quite happy with it and the reliability is first rate with Gold Dot ammo.

Really needs to do her own comparison. the LC9 and M&P9c are totally different in size. I wouldn't put too much stock in to any magazine rating, the article is going to be based off of someone's personal preference, and it isn't going to be yours. A lot of people don't like all the 'safety' gadgets of the LC9. My LC9 is flawless. If a gun has safties, I deal with them, if it doesn't, I deal with it. The LC9 is IMO going to be an easier CC gun. The trigger pull is going to be totally different between the two as well, the M&P breaking much sooner.

I like the M&P, but you NEED to take her to a range so she can shoot both before you make a final decision
