Washington Times article: Gives some basic trends: gun sales up, crime down etc.

What struck me as odd is this "For every $1 spent on ammunition, pistols, shotguns and rifles, the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF) pockets between 10 and 11 cents."

Where does this ATF revenue come from?

There is a federal exise tax on guns and ammo. I think it is 11 percent. It's just like the fed tax on alcohol.

There is an 11% Pittman-Robinson tax, but it is supposed to go to wildlife, not BATF.

Last year, more than 70,000 attended the NRA’s annual meeting in Charlotte, N.C. Even more are likely to show up at the group’s gathering in Pittsburgh that opens Friday. Despite the left’s best efforts to imagine differently, attendees who revere the Second Amendment have even more to celebrate this year.

I think I must have talked to almost every one of them That show almost worked us to death. We ran out of freebie stuff by Sat afternoon . Hope Pitt will be as good Come on and visit this week end.
It a great show

As the number of guns per capita increased, the violent crime rate has fallen - down 6.2 percent last year, according to the FBI.

Nice! Being able to actually defend your home and loved ones makes Mr. Kickdoor uneasy I guess. :D

Take a look at this link:

http://www.nytimes.com/1987/04/15/us/average-size-of-household-in-us-declines-to-lowest-ever-recorded.html

What the Washington Times article does not explain is that over the years there has been an increase in single person house holds in this country. That means that since it is mostly men who own guns most of the house holds where the only adult is a woman who does not own a gun has increased and this skews the stats so that the percentage of house holds with at least one firearm in it has decreased but not the percentage of people who own firearms.

In actually the percentage of adults who own firearms in this country is higher than in the recent past.

i'm a firm believer of the theory that if there was a gun in every pocket, crime would be immensely limited.

With more independently living single women I believe that the number of women owning guns, specifically for self defense has gone up dramatically. I have no proof of that, but a lot of women now aren't shy little violets that their mothers and grandmothers might have been. That's going to be where the resistance to additional gun controls will come from I believe. Good on the ladies!
