Ammo for 1911 Micro

Does anyone have some good places to start for hollow points in a 3 year old SA 1911 Micro .45? I'm a new gun owner and want to see what others have had luck with in their 3" barrels. Also, are grip lasers worth the investment?

Start with Hardball.
Then look for any good hollow point that replicates the shape.

Federal HST feeds like a champ in everything I've ever used it in, and because the design is the most reliable expander out there, there shouldn't be anything that works closer to as intended out of a 3" than the HST.

The new Ranger-T stuff is about the same, I just haven't tried it and it costs a little more. And HST literally feeds in everything. The .40 and .45 have very much FMJ-type profiles, not including the giant hole in the front.

You'll have to experiment, even a gun with a serial # one off of yours might have different preferences.

As far as grip llllaaaaaaaaaaaaazzzors go, I'd never count on one, but they're a good training aid. If you do a lot of dryfire and trigger control exercises with that laser installed and on, you'll probably end up teaching yourself to point-shoot to some degree, so why not if you already have a set?

Im with dave on the grip laser, if you have it, use it for a training aid, but learn to shoot without depending on the laser.

As far as ammo, I have had good luck with winchester silvertips in my ultra compact. 3" vs 3 1/2" shouldnt make that much difference on velocity and expansion.

I have a Colt New Agent. It stays loaded with Federal Personal Defense 185gr JHP. Shoots to POI and is 100% reliable.

Mine likes the 200 grs or 185's. Oil it good and go for it. Be sure to use Wilson officer model magazines.

Mine doesnt like Winchester white box hp's or PDX1's. It did well with the cheap Remington hp's and it loves Hornady XTP's and Hornady Critical Defense along with Hardball.

I have that very gun.
Mine gets a steady diet of WWB FMJ.
I had a few misfeeds in the first 20 rounds, after that, it has been perfect.
(I actually think the magazine was the culprit. For some reason, it doesn't like Wilson Combat mags, likes Kimber and S/A)
It's a range gun for me, although it lays nice and flat in a IWB holster.
I just went smaller for my personal carry gun.

I use Corbon DPX in my officers , Defender and New Agent I have not had problem one . I just feel these Compacts run best with the 185 gr. bullets. I also don't think BG doing to know difference between 185 and 230
