Well, earlier today, the Florida House filed an amendment with the same crappy language as the bill that just passed the Senate. The amendment alters the language of the bill to ban open carry but decriminalize inadvertent exposure.

i cannot for the life of me understand why the FL congress and sheriffs assoc are so bent on destroying this bill, when so many other states have no problems whatsoever

i guess if its come to even shredding the open carry part, i guess it was a pipe dream to hope that it was gonna pass way back when WITH college carry...the part that i really really wanted

because some people here in FL have cuban backgrounds just like me, and in that country (cuba) castro doesn't let you get near a gun, so gun culture is not something cubans have. like the US have the 2nd adm. so must of the people grow without knowing what weapons are. that's the problem with florida.. too many people wanting to overthrow castro but not passing guns law... you know.. using only Harsh language from here but not acting opon.

let me give you an example, if you want to pass a bill here in florida about restricting things to cuba, it will pass in no time... "to protect the people from the evil castro" BUT if you try to pass a gun law to protect the people HERE in FL against criminals they think the sky is going to fall... they also talk about turism... **** 3/4 of florida is swamp

im going to guess you are in the miami area

once you get north of say, the tampa line of latitude (and some places further south like Ft myers), florida becomes another state
I am from fort myers and i now live in gainesville, and the gun culture is pretty strong here in north florida
I dont really think that the cuban influence has much to do with the anti gun agenda of people in this state, it has more to do with the northerners from new england areas coming down here and thinkin were all bass ackwards country folks who need their help to become more civilized

I would say this is pretty accurate from my experience. Most people in florida weren't born here. Those of whose families have been here for generations are extremely rare. The newcomers have a totally different mindset than the natives. I haven't noticed any significant connection between the cuban ex-pat lobby and gun control.

I rarely run into people actually from florida these days...i suppose i can proudly say I am part of the ever shrinking breed of Florida Crackers,,, family goes back in north and central florida for at least 6 or 7 generations

and its not just the guns that the northerners are messin up, it pretty much everything
my dad is the deputy chief of a small town fire dept, small enough that they still use WWII era Dodge WC trucks as brush trucks and there is only 2 stations
the fire commissioners board is composed entirely of old retirees with little to no actual experience in fire fighting.
I sat in on a meeting once, they literally kill the chiefs ideas/ budgets/ plans/ etc... by saying "well thats not how they did it back in Massachusetts/NY/NJ/ (or wherever they were from)"...drives my dad and the chief nuts

I am an actual Floridian! A South Floridian. (Although, my parents are from NY like the rest of the people down here). My parents used to be the people you guys are complaining about, but over the years their viewpoints have shifted somewhat dramatically and would agree with many of the prevailing views on this forum, though certainly not all.

I give myself credit for much of their shift, with guns especially. My parents were not too thrilled to say the least, when I purchased my first gun at 18 while away at college (Savage Mk II). They were what I would call mild, curious anti's. Didn't like I owned a gun but still wanted to shoot it.

Fast forward several years later... My dad has a CCW permit and is the proud owner of an XD40 and Yugo M70 :D

I would consider all of us independents. We don't really buy into everything either party says. Liberals think I'm conservative. Conservatives think I'm liberal. And that's exactly how I like it.
