Hi all I was hoping to get some input regarding a potential purchase of an Anschutz 1451. The rifle is NIB and comes with the anschutz adjustible target rear and the front sight with inserts. It also has a handstop included and one 10 round magazine and 1 five round magazine.

I know its not a 54 or 64 or 2000 action, its also only $600 out the door.
I looked at www.NealJguns.com and the same package is $675 so with shipping and all it would be $710.

I know that this is not an olympic target model its more of a low cost sporter in the anschutz line up. It fits me very well even though its a youth model. I cant afford and don't want a 10 lb $2500-$3000 full blown target rifle so please dont suggest one as a better alternative.
This would be a plinker for informal club matches.

Does anyone here have one or have an opinion on this model??

thanks

IIRC, the 1400 series was taken from the Model 64 action. That one is not nearly as nice and heavy and shiny as the Model 54/1800/1900 series, but it's always done everything I needed in smallbore. The one I'm thinking of uses the bolt handle as the locking lug, the bolt is maybe 5/8-inch diameter, and it has the safety lever on the right side of the receiver. The bigger rifles have twin locking lugs, a very fat bolt for a rimfire, and the safety is...??...on the left of the receiver?

If the receiver is more like a 2000, both prices sound high to me, but those sights retail at roughly $250 a set, if they are the good ones. Guess the prices have all gone up, eh?

Well its a big never mind now.

I went back in to the dealer and low and behold they had a 64 without sights for the same price, well a little more $659 it was so nice that I bought it!!!!!! It has the fully adjustible trigger beautiful stock, its the 64 mpr with a rail, and a heavy barrel with a swell at the muzzle.
1 5rnd magazine, but no sights stock is adjustible. And a 10 shot 50 meter test target, that has a group half the size of a dime!!!!! So now I have to decide wether I want to put a peep sight on it or a scope.

It has the dovetails for the sights and its drilled and tapped for a scope mount.

HMMMMM :D :D :D

What a nice coincidence as I have both the 1451-R and the M64-MPR. You’re absolutely correct in the assessment of the 1451 as an entry-level model. The trigger isn’t that bad but is not at all adjustable. I ended up installing a couple of the 8mm buttstock spacers ( long arms). I scoped mine with a little Leupold 1.5-5x20 and it’s deadly on tin cans and such. I wanted something a little more ‘upscale’ for off hand competition and ended up with the M64-MPR. Sounds like the same version as yours’ sporter style stock with the accessories rail under the forend. I slapped a set of Anschutz 6834 International sights on it and added a hand stop with palm support. The 64s trigger is full adjustable for cant, pull and over-travel and can be lowered to the ounces. It would be nice to have an adjustable cheekpiece, but unfortunately I’d have to go up to the 1903 series and didn’t have the money at the time. You said that your 64s stock is adjustable; do you mean LOP with spacers or cheekpiece and stock cant and pull?

LOP with spacers, but it seems to fit me with the spacers that are on it.

Where did you get your 6834 target sight??

It looks like I could also mount a scope using the 11 mm dovetail rings??

Thanks

I ordered the 6834 sights Acusport, but Neal's should be able to set you up or even AuctionArms.com (http://www.auctionarms.com) or GunBroker.com (http://www.gunbroker.com).

And yes, 11mm dovetail rings will work just fine; that's how I mounted the lil' scope on the 1451- I used Burris steel rings.

I just remembered that eBay usually has a bunch of Anschutz stuff also. That's where I picked up the Anschutz bubble-level anti-cant attachment for the front sight of the 64.
