Check your stats eclancy. The pins most certainly do receive special hardening. You might possibly have had another part in mind, but my answer is still correct.

You are correct in what you say. The part I am looking for is a major part of the M1 Garand and needed this special hardeneing before the M1 Garand was put together.

I have no idea what the answer is.....The correct answer is the barrel.
The hardening of the barrel is at the Bolt nose bearing.
