Look what followed me home... OR Redeeming myself to the wheelgun crowd

Well, last week I asked some advice about a trade. I was trading my Ruger 6" blued GP100 for a new Gen 4 G23 and ammo and holster.
I was flamed by nearly everyone for trading away a Ruger...
I still think it was a good trade given the facts. But to pay homage to the Wheelgun Gods, while I was in the local toy store, I checked out a pristine Ruger Security Six. Price was $400, but I got it for $350+tax, so $371 out the door. I have a really good relationship with the store too, so factor in the $30 they knocked off the price of my two FFL transfers, and it was like I got the Ruger for $340 out the door.
Not a scratch on her. Crisp trigger, great lockup, and perfectly spinning wheel. Looks like she just came out of the factory! The only hint of use is some minor fouling on the front end of the revolver.
What a marvelous find!

Can anyone help me find her birthdate? I'm guessing late 70s or early 80s... but there must be a formula

Awesome find, and a very good price!
Personally, I prefer the Ruger Six series revolvers to the GPs (which are still quite nice themselves). Nearly as durable, but better balance and quicker handling qualities (and looks IMO).
And with something like a FIST #20 leather IWB holster and a stiff gunbelt, they are pretty easy to carry all day.

The serial number is on the bottom of the frame under the grip.
Ruger has DOB info on their web site.
IIRC the warning started to appear in 1978.

Great find, especially in such mint condition. The Security Six with the 4" barrel was my favorite model; I wish I had held on to a few of them back then.

Checked our Ruger's website. 1981-82 production.

I think you traded very well. I really prefer a 4-in barrel to a 6 anyway. Congrats on such a clean gun.

what the?!
I paid that much for an old beat up speed six! ok, not really that beat up. just a few scratches here and there, and a few pits on the trigger guard. I need to polish it up. You really got a great price.

congrats. Consider yourself redeemed. I like the -Six series revolvers better than the GP series anyway.

I have a blued security 6 that I purchased a few months ago to keep my GP-100 company. Great guns! I really wish I could find one in SS though. That is one sexy beast of a gun you have there.

Have the Security Six with 6" bbl and Super Blackhawk .44 with 7.5" that were inherited and I have to tell ya I so prefer a 4" barrel to either. The balance is just better, IMHO. So 2 S&W with 4" and a Trooper in 4" end up getting much more time on the range. Pretty weapon you have there and a great price. Congrats.

It's a beautiful gun. I have an old '72 (although my neighbor insists that it's a '74) blued that is extremely accurate with .38 spec. and almost as good with .357 mags. I take it and the old '72 3 screw to the range quite often. I think you'll get years of enjoyment out of it.
