A paste below of what I posted on my Facebook page this morning. Request here for all Texans to do something similar. And stay on top of it all thru the end of the month.

"Well, pistol fans, it's "crunch time" with the Texas Legislature. Consider it the top of the ninth, bases loaded, score of 0-0, 1 out, with our #9 batter at the plate. http://www.texaschlforum.com/viewforum.php?f=110 describes bills we need to get passed. And which House Reps and Senators need to be called and/or faxed. Please study up and light em up! Because you can bet all your bullets the opposition is doing it!"

I was getting ready to say, "When did you start liking baseball?"

Never stopped liking baseball. :) Having kids, as ya know ;), changes priorities. It sounded like a good analogy at the time to get maybe get some apathetic folks into the "games" in Austin for the next couple of weeks.

A sleeping "biggie" amendment potentially coming to Senate Bill 905. One that I estimate could impact around 200,000 license holders pretty promptly. If not seen already, check out http://www.texaschlforum.com/viewtopic.php?f=110&t=45048 And note on page 5, that one of the guys who also posts here pretty much gets his clock cleaned.

He who swings to hit a home run on every pitch, far, far more times than not, pops up, grounds out, or strikes out.

You may not get a home run, but there's always a single, double or triple. If all you can see is the downside, why come to bat at all?

I didn't post to convert everyone; I know better that. I posted because I hoped some people, if the facts were laid before them, would think about what's going on instead of just accepting whatever is fed to them.

It's Mr. Cotton's forum and he and I have some differences of opinion. Especially when it comes to accepting a second-hand bone in the hopes we would get the steak we had been promised but has not been delivered.

There's a bunch of work to do and very little time to do it in.

Let's get to work.

"get the steak we had been promised"

Sorry, I must have missed that one. How about providing a direct link on that one? Not just another under-informed rant.

Ask your representative and Speaker Straus to preserve the Campus Carry amendment to SB1581 and oppose any gutting amendments

Call Calendars and ask that HB766 be placed on the Major State calendar

Ask your representative to support Rep. Kleinschmidt's amendment to SB905

So much for the amendment to SB1581. We've got eight days to go in the session and neither Campus Carry nor Parking Lot legislation have made it.

From the way it looks, SB321 (Parking Lot) may get to Perry's desk (if it gets out of committee), but it's looking a bit grim for Campus Carry.

"Top of the 9th, based loaded?" I think you forgot to mention there were two outs and it now looks like we've got two strikes, as well.

And I am not really holding my breath hoping Perry will add either cause to a special session.

Talking to a bunch of TX gun folks who know the game this weekend - and it's clear that Perry played the gun folk. If parking lot doesn't make it - that should be enough that the TSRA and NRA specifically point him out as an obstacle despite him shooting Wiley Coyote.

Well, it looks like we got two runs in before striking out. SB 321 (Parking Lot storage) and SB 766 (protection for shooting ranges) are on their way to Perry's desk and should be signed. We struck out on Campus Carry unless Perry adds it to the special session. OTOH, SB 905 seems to have died quietly. It was supposed to be scheduled on the Local and Uncontested Calendar but, AFAIK, didn't make it by the time the session ended.

These are two important wins. Parking lot will protect many folks on the way to and from work.

Amazingly, some folks on the TX CHL forum are still bleating that the parking lot is preserve of the Lord and Master Employer - whose property rights and ability to rule the serfs (oh - employees) is being violated.

So I guess His Royal Highness Business Owner can have a gun on him or in his car but the peasants can't have one in their car.

But I say, great job to those who fought for the bills.

"We struck out on Campus Carry unless Perry adds it to the special session."

As Yogi said, "It ain't over til it's over ..."

The parking lot protection and the range protection are big gains.

I think we can still get campus carry if it is included in the special session.

Yogi also said, "You can hear a lot just by listening".

So what's the realistic chance of campus carry being added to the special session?

Someone said, in some thread - that in 2009 - Perry also had the same choice and didn't act.

He could have put it on the emergency agenda - oops.

If he wants to be president - probably not a high priority.

We will see, I didn't see on the news that campus carry was on the list of things that were high on consideration if they get back to work.

Things can be added, but the agenda so far doesn't include any gun legislation at all, pro, anti or indifferent. I could be wrong (and hope I am) but I don't see anyone making Campus Carry a major issue. I have a hunch that, as far as our elected representatives are concerned, it had its hearing and was opposed by too many special interests, so they will just let it be until it comes up again in 2013. I hope by then we have done a better job of lining up support and a much better job of presentation.

I guess they have never heard of easements, zoning and other legal incursions into the rights of the property owner. The time to bleat passed long ago.
