What would the enemy be thinking when they saw an elephant with a machine gun mounted on its back? i think its a colt/browning 1895.

Yep. Looks like a Colt 1895 "potato digger" to me. Did they ever find out what happens if you fire a machine gun near an elephant's ears? Could add a whole new dimension to the cavalry charge. :what:

Elephants have been used in war for centuries. I don't know how they would respond to machine gun fire.

Looks like a Model 1895 Browning prototype. I've seen other pictures and illustrations of Gatling Guns form the same era mounted on camels and elephants. Don't know if any were ever actually used in combat.

What strikes me is the patience shown by these animals in enduring this silliness. You can tell that the soldiers didn't think much of the idea either, by the way they haphazardly threw the tripod over the animals' backs. This was certainly an unstable mounting, made worse by the animal's predictable reaction to the firing of the machine gun. Plus, it's a Colt Potato Digger, and the swinging lever under the barrel would be hitting whatever was below it at each shot. (That's why they called it the "Potato Digger.")

Having, at a very young age, fired a 22 from on top of a horse....briefly on top....
this could put a new twist to rodeo!!!LOL I'm gonna go with the M1895.

That's pretty neat! However you could easily thwart the attack with a mouse.
