New to Forum- Taurus PT92

Hey all,
I'm new to the forum and just recently bought my first handgun, a Taurus PT92 9mm Stainless after much research. I'm decently familiar with guns, as my family has several, so shooting isn't totally new to me, but I'm finding myself a little lost in the logistics of it all. Anybody have any tips on what ammo to buy(Primarily target and pests, also self-defense), and what to get for a holster? I'll probably want to get a CCP eventually, but I really just need a leather holster that'll be practical for working on my land. I've been looking either a Galco(Aggressor or Combat Master) or a Blackhawk(Paddle or 3-slot Pancake). Anyone have any experience/opinions with these? Thanks!

First off, WELCOME :)

Second, that is a great pistol! I have two of them one bought in 1987 and the other bought last year. I have had no failure to feed any kind or type of ammo in these pistols, they should take any decent ammo and give you no problems.

Those holsters are all great, I just bought a cheap Bulldog holster because it had a clip holder as well, only paid 13.99 at bass pro, but here is a link so you can see what it looks like

and it works great.

Welcome to the forum! You chose an excellent pistol for your first. As for ammo you have plenty of choices for target and pests, but for self defense you need a good JHP load like the SPEER Gold Dot or better yet the 124 gr. +P Gold dot or the 124 gr. +P Remington Golden Saber. As for holsters since you plan to open carry I would imagine that comes down to personal preference and aesthetics. Whichever one you think looks the best. And though you are new to handguns it's never too early to think about reloading your own ammo to make your hobby complete.;)

Thanks for the quick reply! And the information on ammo is really helpful. Quick question, I keep seeing '9mm luger' on most 9mm ammo, that IS the correct ammunition for my gun, right? I know it's a stupid question, I just want to be sure. And I really like that blackhawk holster, but can't find a lot of reviews online, so it'd be awesome if someone's actually owned one and could tell me if they're any good. Thanks again!

Yes, 9mm Luger is correct and No such thing as a stupid question. I carry 147 grn Jacketed Hollow Points in both my taurus's PT92 afs. I load both 147grn and 124/125 grn ammo to shoot at the range or plink at the camp. The 124/125 grn I load is fmj and the 147grn is flat point.

I cant speak for the blackhawk holster as I do not have one.

For 9mm. practice ammo I use mainly Winchester White Box (you'll see this referred to as WWB quite often), in the 100 round box. Typically I find it at WalMart for the lowest price anywhere. You may also find 9mm. ammo labelled as 9mm. Parabellum; same exact thing as 9mm. Luger. The Taurus PT-92 is a great design and very reliable. I especially like that the safety can be used as both a decocker (double action trigger pull with the first shot), or as a thumb safety if you want to carry it in Condition One (single action trigger pull with the first shot). For a good all around holster I like the Blackhawk design.
