Anyone use the 85 grain Nolser Partition on whitetail deer? I know the 85 grain BTHP works well, but was wondering how it compared to the Nolser.

I've used both of those bullets, and i find the NP penetrates deeper and i like it much better as i don't always get that "perfect" shot..

I shot an antelope with an 85 grain partition once. Perfect shot. Outstanding result. The bullet passed right through but given the holes in the hide on the far side it did break up a bit. The antelope ran about 20 feet. I don't have any experience with the other brand.

Barnes TSX in any caliber are extremely effective.
Partitions too. I am now testing their Nosler E-tip in 30caliber.
Sierra Game kinds do the job well too. Barnes have been my
best hunting bullet but for long range I prefer the partitions,
Sierras or even the Swift Sirocco II or Bergers hunting VLDs that have the best ballistic coefficient.

I hope this helps.

An NP is supose to "expand fast", to the partition, then the rear of the bullet from the partition back, will drive in DEEP, usually exiting leaveing a caliber size hole in the hide.

That sounds like exactly what your bullet did, perfect in my book.

The I loaded up a couple Nosler Partitions for my 9 year old to use in an AR for hunting Hogs. It hit harder than any little 60gr bullet has the right to hit, and dropped the hog right there. I was impressed with that little pill, for sure.

Thanks for the replies. The BTHP (Federal premium) shoots sub moa, no need to reload. I'll have to see if the Nosler does the same. My 1 in 10 twist seems to favor the 85 grainers.

Those Federal guys stole my load! Proud of them, though. Same tight groups as I've always had from my handloads. :D

The advantage for me for using the Sierra is that it's ruinacious on coyotes. Not only am I lazy, I don't like a mixed inventory.

What calibre? Sierra makes an 85 grain bullet in at least 3 different calibres. No$ler Partition$ only in 6mm. Wouldn't bother with a pricey premium bullet for deer myself.

Sunray, the key is "HPBT", which is a .243 bullet.
