Hi: call me Tony the C for starters. I am new to HighRoad and am not sure if my questions will be viewed as dumb, but here goes. I wes at my local gun store this morning when the owner started to log in a collection of guns that he had to buy the whole lot from a collector. A Sig 229 40SW did catch my eye. This gun was never fired had tags and factory grease under slide. But back to my question, the lettering on side of box is as follows. SIG P229 40SW,--NK--3.9" Rail NS 2-12RD 066 on the bottom of same sticker is SG29R40ENS,ACU00332 E29R-40-SN. What does all this stand for. when I got it home under the foam I found a 357 barrel still in a plastic bag. It is not two tone or black, but off color flat silver slide has stainless written on it and bottom is alloy.I payed $525.00 out the door. What would the NK stand for. Ihave been all over web sights and found all kinds of SIG 229 but not one that looked like this one in color. Can any SIG heads help me out on this one. is the seral# mean this is new or old gun. Thanks for your time. Tony The C

First off you stole that gun, congrats on the good find. The 357 Sig barrel is worth $100-150 alone.

I have no idea what the NK stands for.

You can use either, but we'll be able to tell more if you take detailed pictures of the gun with your camera

From what I can gather, your slide is a weird silver color. my first guess would be that NK stands for Nickel and the slide has a Nickel plating on it. That's purely speculation though. I have a regular nitron 226 and a regular stainless 2 tone 229 and neither say NK on the box. Just because the slide says stainless doesnt mean that it's finish is stainless. Just means it was milled out of stainless steel. but i agree. pictures of the gun and box would help.

The "silvery colored" slide is machined from stainless steel - "stainless" is the material it is made of, not a finish per se - then probably left as natural metal, with no coating.

Thanks for all the help guys, the NK did stand for nickel.i guess that top and bottom nickel Sigs did not take off to well for Sig. Every body wants two tone or all black but thats fine with me. I have a frend who just bought a Sig EQ with sig red wood grips,he took them off for Hogue rubber grips so I got them from him. The red wood sig grips look great with the nickel. Put 200 357 rounds down range today.Recoil was just fine,You guys are right this is a keeper.now I will try shooting at dusk and my wife will use the movie camera.

I can tell its newer (post 90s) because of the nicer take down lever. It has that bump on the bottom and doesn't scratch the slide like the older all plain take down levers.

Gun looks really great, I have a 2-tone with nickel finish. Very nice looking finish.

Boy, you got a DEAL... :what: Nice Gun!
SIG makes so many versions of the same gun it make the head spin :cuss:
Having the two barrels is icing on the cake.....:D

Have fun, shoot straight and safe!
