carrying while running
I have a j-frame that I would like to conceal while running. However, I have not been able to find a way to comfortably do so. I mainly pocket carry, but this forces me to wear shorts that are not very comfortable to run in.
Are there any other runners on here that carry during their runs? How do you do it if you do?
Thanks for your help.

I cannot carry where I live/run at. I think about this a lot and believe that it would be uncomfortable anywhere I try.
A chest rig seems that it would be the best, but I have never worn one so I have no idea how it feels.
I run in underarmour shorts and shirt, so anything would print most definitely.
As much as I'd like to carry, I live in a nice place, its illegal, and I run pretty fast.
Id stay away from anything on the waist. A fanny pack might work, but I hate anything bouncing while I run. My stomach used to, not anymore!!

I had complained in here before, that this is the one area where I had no solution for always carrying a large gun. I usually scoff at people who insist that you can't carry a full-size auto, but this is one case where I had no solution until recently. I dug out of the bottom of an old ammo can, my ancient issued shoulder/chest holster, which was given to me for a 1911, but it fits an M-9 just fine. I used it in Iraq to carry while wearing PTs since I didn't have a belt to hook a holster too, and I found I could run with it just fine.
I like the shoulder holster idea, but I have to conceal my weapon. We are just about to start hitting the triple digit temps, so clothing is going to be at a minimal while running.

I might even suggest one of the NAA .22mag mini-revolvers hanging around the neck, but I know full well that this would feel a lot heavier when you ran with it. I suppose another option is the fanny pack, rotated to the weak side. Hang some water on the strong side to even it out?

Depending on your health, you could always use a weighted vest, take the weights out, put a gun in the velcro weight pouch. Then add weight to increase health/stamina. Watch your knees though the added weight can mess with them.

Have you thought about a iwb with a small auto or 38 airweight.I jog with a iwb and a tauras slim 9 it doesnt bounce that much.Make sure the holster has a thumb break and belt loops to keep it in place. The cant on mine is set parallel to my belt and rides in the middle of my back. Its not real fast to draw but only half the handle rides above the cargo shorts.

I carry a .380 in a little Uncle Mike's holster on my waistband when I run. I can't recall which size, but it's the holster that fits the Kel Tec .32, the LCP, and the Sig P238. I have done separate 3-mile runs with two of these pistols in that little Uncle Mike's holster clipped to my shorts. They are light-weight running shorts, nothing special. It all works just fine.

I'm very interested in the 5.11 conceal shirt I posted above. I might purchase this summer. If I do I'll certainly do a review.

I have one at home, but personally, I think it's junk. Bulky, uncomfortable, and a J-frame printed through my cover shirt. They do seem to get good reviews though, so maybe it's just me.

That's the way I do it.

I carry a Taurus Model 85, pretty much the same size I believe. I carry it in a leather belt holster on some hiking shorts, either with a loose shirt over it or just openly. I wipe it down good with CLP after a run.

Never tried an ankle, might work, like Tom said, go with belly band IWB position or over your gut.

Corrosion protection is another issue. It gets prett warm here in Georgia, and my LCP is absolutely soaked in sweat post run. I think a better option would be a NAA minimag tucked into Nike's DriFit compression shorts. The shorts have a small pocket in the back designed for keys/cards but works for a micro sized revolver. It is probably the most comfortable option I have discovered.

carrying while running
Armband pouch like the ones for iPods and cell phones. Some are made from neoprene and are tight enough to prevent movement inside the pouch. They also usually come with a velcro closure.

I carry my Ruger LCR 357 Mag in a pistol wear PT-2 Holster. Wear it right around hips under any shirt, for active wear. Web site pistolwear.com, this is a well made holster. No trigger guard in this holster.

I usually carry my Keltec P32 with the belt clip just behind my right hip. It's so light that it doesn't rub or bounce around much. As to corrosion I ran the beach for a few miles in Panama city and went into the surf to cool off. When I got back to the hotel I just rinsed it off in fresh water. A couple of years later it's still reliable and yes the ammo worked fine.

I have an Uncle Mikes Ankle Holster with the accessory upper-calf garder. If you wear long pants, you can wear this holster and you can definately run with the gun in it and it is not going to go anywhere, I have done it using my 642 J-Frame.

I used to carry my pistol in a fanny pack, or a SmartCarry holster when I ran with a gun. Small, light, and preferably corrosion resistant is the key for the gun. Snug, not bouncing is key for the holster.
Thanks for all of the advice everyone, I think that I'm going to try the belly band solution. I'll try to let everyone know how it works when I get it and try it out.

If I feel the need to carry while running, I wear one of these with the LCP in a pouch. Fits snugly, but well enough.

I have used both smartcarry and pistolwear quite a bit. Both have worked well with a Seecamp for various distances up to half-marathons.
Now I favor pistolwear for running and normally carry a Kahr PM9 for training and exercise runs. The pistolwear does a better job keeping sweat off the pistol while the belt portion is softer and more comfortable.

I carried some when running in bear country (well its all bear country) and it was uncomfortable. I was using a shoulder holster that would just kinda bounce around. I just started carrying it in my hand.

Ruger - with a bigger gun, that may be all you can comfortably do. It's what we did in Afghanistan.

I carry a Taurus PT740 in this and it is pretty comfortable. I find it feels most secure and least obtrusive when carried about waistband height half tucked in my shorts. The liner of this holster seems to do pretty well keeping the sweat off the gun, also.
I have also seriously considered the one Carne Frio mentioned, but don't know how comfortable the straps around the back of the neck would be.

Running is one time I will carry off-body, but IN the hand, an Uncle Mike's belt pouch type of holster. Each lap around the park, I would switch hands. I used a J-frame, which is shootable with either hand, with training. A small side pocket holds speed strips. I held the pouch so my hand gripped the cylinder, for security and to keep the weapon oriented for a possible draw, and the zipper was unzipped, for access.
Of course, that was when my knees actually still allowed me to RUN. Now, it is fast walk/slow jog, with the dogs, with an SP101 or P229 in a Safepacker worn on a reinforced nylon belt.

I have a standard, thin runner's pack. You know, this type of thing.

Big enough for a Seecamp, cell and ID. There are wider ones, nice colors, too; pink especially doesn't scream "I'M CARRYING A GUN IN HERE." Of course, pink may scream something else.
Personally, I think jogger's pepper spray is going to be more useful. To each his own.

Recently tried a jog with my LC9 in an Uncle Mike's #10. Worked well. I do 10-minute miles though, so on someone who is running faster and harder that pistol might move around more.
