Can you change a 10/22 22lr to a 17hmr mag. by changing just the barrel? Or do you need a 10/22 mag rifle first?

The long rifle model wil not convert. The reciever is shorter, bolt and all innards are different. Stock inletting is even different, I think. The 22 mag is just a barrel swap changeover

I believe it can be done, but it's certainly not as easy as with a magnum receiver. Search over at www.rimfirecentral.com for instructions.

ksnecktieman, is the change to .22 mag really that easy? I would like to do that if it is indeed that easy.
You wouldn't happen to have any good lines on a "kit" to change over would you? By "kit" I mean barrel and magazine together.

Thanks

I think I was not clear. I did not mean that the 22 lr would convert to the 22 mag. What I meant was that the 22 mag will convert to the 17 hrm (hornady rimfire mag). someone just asked that question on "rimfire central forums". The discussion can be found at this link if you are interested.

By the way, the 22 hmr is the cutest little round I have seen in a long time. it looks like someone washed and dried a .223, and it shrunk by about half:D

the .17 and .22 mag use the same magazine as the .17 is a necked down .22 mag from what I understand.
