i just picked up this 1911 springfield GI used for $475. i had a few questions for those who have knowledge on the model in question.

first off, i noticed some say made in brazil and some dont. my understanding is that they are all made in brazil, but do the full size GI models not have "brazil" stamped on the frame?

i was also wondering about the year is was made. my serial number is marked ww 34xxx. im not sure if i have a "newer" one or an "older" one.

and what do these guns go for new? i could only find one on GB and it was listed at $700, but ive heard they are $550. are these guns hard to find? GB had plenty of the compact versions and mil spec versions.

The GI is made by Imbel in Brazil.

If you remove the grips, the year of manufacture should be lazer engraved under the right panel.

You paid about the going rate for them used.

All Springfield frames are made in Brazil. Has been that way for many years. Some pistols are completed in Brazil, then imported. Some frames are imported into the US, then turned into completed pistols. The ones marked Made in Brazil are the former. The ones not so marked are the later.
You paid about the going rate.

And this should be in the Semi-Auto forum, not the revolver forum. :p

I don't know from serial numbers, but those are late model grips. Early model grips are brown GI plastic. I bought the first one I saw, NIB for $475. sn 14XXX.

Nice gun, by the way.

good choice :)

they're around $525 in every shop i've seen them in. used to be rare, but now they seem to be everywhere.

All Springfield frames are made in Brazil.

to be more exact, all SA frames, slide, and barrels are forged in brazil. the NM frame ones are machined and fit in IL :) (the serial number on the frame begins with "NM")

however, all GI models have been completed in brazil for years now. the older ones are NM frames completed in IL.
