Just bought a new Mark III .22lr w/ the 5.5 bull bbl!!!! Cant wait to take it out for some cheap plinking!!!!!! You guys with these rugers.... I was wondering how it eats federal bulk or just any bulk ammo for that matter. Is it ammo sensitive? Are there any others suggestions you might have for me. This is my first .22lr pistol so just wondering what I might need to know before I go to the range. Thanks ahead of time!:D

my mk2 likes federal and winchester plated ammo fine. It really hated unplated thunderbolts and the remington golden bullet bulk stuff. I've never fed it anything but bulk ammo.

You'll probably love the gun. 22 auto's are a hoot. Anything you need to know.... get a 3rd magazine and pack some tin cans. And a tiny screwdriver to adjust the sights if needed.

It comes with the scope mount but I think I'll try open sights for before mounting optics.

Nice^^^

I wonder what the highest round count is for these guns before they start falling apart if even possible. Just because I know I could sit for hours shooting .22's.

My uncle has the original ruger. before it became a mark anything. He's shot the rifling out and it's still pretty accurate.

break it in with 3-400 minimags after you get the shipping preservative out, and it should eat the cheap Fed550 bulk like candy.

My buddy and I shot .22's last Friday afternoon. He shot his Ruger 5.5" bull barrel Mk II and I shot my Trailside. Lots of cheap fun. Those fluted barrels on the Mk III Target look cool. Congrats. :)

I still have my Ruger Mark II and the round count is over 20k and growing. I got the Mark III because it was pretty, not to replace the Mark II...

I plan on getting one of these very soon. Not sure which though, so many choices!

I have a MK I Target and 2 MK II Targets. I try to feed 'em plated ammo. Bulk is fine. I had a feeding issue with cheapo Rem Thunderbolt a while back. My MK I and 5.5 MK II both wouldn't feed it. I switched to bulk plated Federal and they went back to running smoothly....FWIW, my 10" MK II ate that Thunderbolt ammo just fine.

walkalong, how do you like that trailside? I always liked the concept of a hammerli for the mass market. pity they stopped making it. I don't know why.

WMT Federal Value Pack is the ammo of choice for my MKIII678.
Get a couple extra magazines and a UCL.

I've got a Mark III and it seems to shoot anything bulk, with the exception of the Remingtons. The Remingtons seem to have more feeding and ejecting problems. Not so with the other brands. Try as many as you have access to, and you'll find out what your Ruger prefers. You'll most likely find a little more accuracy and reliablility out of one. (just my experience)

The first bulk rounds I tried years ago in mine were Federal Auto Match, never had a problem since. As a plus they shoot very accurately. Don't be afraid to try a little of every brand you can get your hands on. You will find what it likes soon enough then let the fun begin:)!!!

He's shot the rifling out

Now that's the very first time I've ever heard of a .22rf being shot enough to remove the rifling. How many rounds do you suppose were fired through your uncle's Ruger before the rifling got "shot out"?

After some researching, we decided to feed all of our new .22's a steady diet of at least 300 CCI Mini Mags before switching to other foods. Now our MKIII 512 digests seems to digest everything well. Except for an occasional hiccup (FTF, FTE) with some Federal bulks that we tried. I'm thinking it was something do with the casing size, 'cuz a few of those also were pretty difficult to eject out of the R/Rider cylinder.

My MKIII will feed any brand. I only frire High Velocity rounds. Mini Mags are my preferred ammo. I do shoot Remington, which will cycle but are much dirtier.

Once you have it awhile, you'll have fun dressing it up. I put Hogue Monogrips on mine, hex screws, and a Burris Fast Fire II red dot sight. Shoots like a dream.

My MKIII hasn't had a problem with any ammo yet. Mostly bulk ammo from Wal Mart, Federal, Winchester and Remington. I've had Ruger autoloaders that didn't like Federal before but not this MKIII.

For medium-priced accuracy I like the CCI 'Standard Velocity' round.
For REAL accuracy I like the CCI 'Pistol Match'.
Both of these rounds stay subsonic so they are not upset by transonic speed buffet problems at longer ranges. Supersonic .22 rounds are great, but they do crazy things when they slow down to subsonic speeds.

I have been a fan of CCI rimfire rounds for quite a while. I think that they take thier rimfire stuff more seriously than some other manufacturers.

But, the Federal bulk '745' bulk pack of 525 rounds makes for a great day plinking with all of my .22s.

I have a MkIII with Hogue target grips and a red dot 1x target pistol optic, with Volquartsen trigger. This pistol will shoot ragged holes time after time.
