rogertc1 June 2, 2011, 02:21 PM Anyone ever do this? I was having more than a few mixed drinks, ate and then took a nap. Woke up and went on line. Saw an e-mail that I had won a gun off Gun Broker! I Still do not remember bidding for it. I did pretty good however as they usually sell NIB for $1200. So I did OK at $750.
I guess I'll buy it. Wanted one way back in the late 70's but couldn't find one. I know they are heavy guns with a horrid trigger pull and poor accuracy. BUT They look cool..and fit well in derringer my collection.

I'm afraid booze-induced lapses of judgment in bidding aren't a valid excuse ;-) But in this case it's a good mishap. That's a must for any derringer collection, and a good find. As an experiment it failed, but it's still interesting. Personally I'd stick to trailboss cast loads out of it and I'd never use it as a carry piece. It's sure to get noticed at the range.

Well played, Leon.
rogertc1 June 2, 2011, 03:02 PM Been into NV Absinthe Verte with 7UP. Has a sight black liquorish. Not a hard core Absinthe drinker. But it is the flavore of this month. Usually drink cheap butt beers like Earthquake or Milwalke Best Ice.

P.S. I will never shoot the gun myself...just for the collection.

Ultravox June 2, 2011, 03:38 PM Still doesn't answer the "what is it" question...
FIVETWOSEVEN June 2, 2011, 03:57 PM Its a COP .357 Derringer.
goon June 2, 2011, 04:12 PM I think they were made by American Derringer.
rogertc1 June 2, 2011, 05:46 PM Ha he thought you ment what i was drinking. Was made Pre American derringer....Just google. COP DERRINGER ..lots of stuff on them.
ThePunisher'sArmory June 2, 2011, 05:55 PM Looks cool enough. Must kick like a mule though..........Hope you don't have any "mixers" while shooting it :D.
Dr_B June 2, 2011, 06:02 PM Awesome find. Would love to have one.
Cosmoline June 2, 2011, 06:09 PM Been into NV Absinthe Verte with 7UP
Absinthe? I think Taffy Lewis was actually serving those in the film. That's serious hard-core fandom. Not sure I want to know if you have a snake collection.
SharpsDressedMan June 2, 2011, 06:46 PM Absinthe was Hemmingway's favorite. And we all know how he ended up.......
CSA 357 June 2, 2011, 06:59 PM thats why i stopped drinking
Nushif June 2, 2011, 09:42 PM Lawl! That is funny. At least something good came of it.
Can't say I've ever bought a gun drunk though.
460Kodiak June 2, 2011, 09:45 PM :what: Wow, that is a great price for a great collectors piece. This is weird, because I was just looking at those on GB on Wednesday! If you are going to make a drunken oops purchase, you did well as far as I'm concerned. I once bid on a S&W 629-5 Performance Center (the ones with the adjustable barrel weights and unfluted cylinder) revolver for $1000 while drunk. It sold for $1300 so I didn't end up with it. I'm sad and relieved at the same time.
Nice Blade Runner reference guys. The Merovingian's wife in the second Matrix movie also used one of these to shoot a man in the head. They are neet little guns, and supposedly the weight helps keep the percieved recoil down. I have heard they are inaccurate though, so reserve it for the collectors cabinet, safe, or for point blank situations.
There is a utube video of some guy shooting one. Enjoy, but perhaps you should hide your internet cable, or router before drinking. ;)
Jim NE June 2, 2011, 10:03 PM Wow, I've heard of drunks seeing double...but QUADRUPLE??
I think it's cool :)
KingMedicine June 2, 2011, 10:35 PM No buying while i drink! i would end up broke and on the street!
C5rider June 2, 2011, 10:45 PM I can see it now RogerTC1
Keep doing that and they'll put a breath-sniffer on your keyboard! :D
FIVETWOSEVEN June 2, 2011, 11:00 PM Does it fire all barrels at once or one at a time?
chihuahuatn June 2, 2011, 11:01 PM I hear yea...thats why I have a unfired SPAS-12 in my closet.
Its also a good way to be sleeping single in a double bed,

rscalzo June 2, 2011, 11:09 PM Woke up and went on line.
Could have been worse. You could have woken up, looked next to you and saw.....

welldoya June 2, 2011, 11:50 PM I was at an estate auction about 3 years ago and they had one of these. I had never heard of it so I didn't bid. Best I can remember it went for a little less than $300.
I did get a bargain on a Marlin Camp 9 at $225 though.
CZF June 3, 2011, 12:04 AM COP .357 Derringer.
They were pretty cool back in the day.
Just like the DA .22 Magnum Derringer for us Narcs.
I actually preferred the Jennings .22 auto:)
CraigC June 3, 2011, 12:20 AM Absinthe was Hemmingway's favorite. And we all know how he ended up....
Yeah but absinthe made today has very little thujone in it and is very highly regulated for its content.
Tim the student June 3, 2011, 12:20 AM Nothing to add on the new gun (congrats, I guess), but this is the funniest thread title I think I've ever seen here.
You should post this on HROT.
armoredman June 3, 2011, 12:50 AM That's a new twist on why alcohol and guns don't mix.
I remember the COP in Blade Runner was rigged to fire two barrels at a time, which is why it had the brilliant muzzle flash.
I handled one years ago, thought it was the proverbial answer to the unasked question. But, as you say, a very cool conversation piece and collectors item.
wow6599 June 3, 2011, 12:59 AM I've loosened up with a few (or more) on a couple of occasions and bought guns online.
I blame my wife..........:D
blue german June 3, 2011, 01:27 AM The C.O.P. is from a California company (now out-of-business 'surprised? ...not me..') called M&N Distributors.I worked with the M&N people for some weeks in the mid-70s to invent, develop and build a rimless extractor system for the COP to allow it to be made in rimless calibers.....380 acp, 38 super and 9mm Luger. Within several months of my completing this project, M&N wa no longer in business.
And I own the only one in 9mm Luger......:neener:
rogertc1 June 8, 2011, 07:55 AM Got my COP in yesterday. Looks like it hasn't been fired. Came with box. Really a very well made derringer. Great addition to my collecton. I don't plan on shooting it myself. Just display it...somewhere in my gun room. Not much room left.
Wishoot June 8, 2011, 11:46 AM Now you just need to get drunk and buy ME a gun.
Harley Quinn June 8, 2011, 11:51 AM Being drunk is not cool with firearms, buying, selling or shooting:what:
It is a lucky buy, similar to a lucky trip home, if in similar state...
:)
hardknocks! June 8, 2011, 12:46 PM blackout drinking and firearms:eek:
HammerheadSSN663 June 8, 2011, 11:16 PM Reminds me of the time about 5 years ago that the UPS guy knocks on the door and asks my old man to sign for the package.
Opens it up and its one of those cheap, piece-o-crap, Estaban guitars.
Old man starts yelling at his wife (my stepmother).
She then reminds him of his post golfing binge with his buddies on Saturday afternoon that carried over to 2am and that the TV was on while they were all downstairs in the basement watching the Golf Channel.
"oh,.........."
SwampWolf June 8, 2011, 11:41 PM No buying while i drink! i would end up broke and on the street!
Heck, I manage to do that stone cold sober. :o
toivo June 8, 2011, 11:42 PM Yeah, that looks like a gun you'd have to be drunk to buy...
Gordon June 9, 2011, 12:00 AM Wow this gets MY best ever thread on this forum!
Like a bro. all ready mentioned these guns were kewl back in the day for a back up for Narcs (and the .22 Mag HS 101 derringer too) and such. They do work, at least mine did, getting 6" groups at 7 yards and drawing easily from the pocket. It wuz like carrying a one pound chipmunk in your pocket tho...
but 4 rounds of the Treasury Load (.38spl +P+ 110 grain skived hollow points) that matched what your model 19 snub took seemed correct at the time , hey I was drinking pretty regularly then!
Later , in 1979, I made the mistake of showing up with my jeans bulging with it to back up my Combat Commander at API . The Blessed Colonel "made the print" and before the class asked me to show my back up piece.
I traded it to an officer back home the following week for AMT Hard baller Longslide he said jammed all the time. It was the AMT mags why it jammed of course and I never looked back at the Cop Pepperbox!
Josh45 June 9, 2011, 12:26 AM Im gonna go out on a limb and say...Bad Boys? That looks kike the exact same gun in the movie towards the end. I forgot what his name was, The BG had?
Correct me if im wrong?
Awesome piece tho, I always wondered where you can find this piece and never knew a thing about them except it looked pretty cool
rogertc1 June 9, 2011, 04:59 PM hello..
ArchAngelCD June 10, 2011, 01:12 AM I can honestly say of all the things I've done in my life buying a gun and not remembering doing it wasn't one of them.
Screendmon June 10, 2011, 07:23 AM I've done that with eBay, but not gun auctions... yet.
EMC45 June 10, 2011, 08:13 AM Firearms and alcohol don't mix.
ny32182 June 10, 2011, 10:06 AM I was going to say, it is the gun from the end of the first Bad Boys movie!
I've made a couple GB bids while enjoying some drinks. Luckily it hasn't cost me. Now I have a... semi firm rule about not bidding while drinking. Unless it looks like a really good deal of course. heh.
stickhauler June 11, 2011, 01:38 AM Just thank the Lord you weren't watching "snuggie" infomercials when you got into a buying mood.
BigDeesul June 11, 2011, 02:14 AM That's so hilarious!! I'm soo glad I read this. I do stupid $hit when I'm drunk, but I can't say I've ever bought a gun!! Congratulations on winning, and at least you got a good deal. I usually just post stupid stuff on facebook when I'm drunk online!! How does it shoot?
wristtwister June 11, 2011, 07:15 AM When I hear people talking about being drunk and doing anything with firearms, the conversation's over... not cool in any way, shape, or form... It would be just as easy for you to wake up from one of your drunken stupors and find bodies on the floor... not cool at all...
WT
Tim the student June 11, 2011, 07:39 AM It would be just as easy for you to wake up from one of your drunken stupors and find bodies on the floor
I got drunk once and read about guns on THR. Thank god I didn't kill someone instead.
mec June 11, 2011, 04:20 PM That COP pistol was on the cover of Volume One of American Handgunner. I'm sure you thought you were seeing double and thought it was a stack barrel derringer.
I got crocked and went on line and bought a Queen pocket knife. It was the Right Thing To Do.
toivo June 11, 2011, 04:30 PM When I hear people talking about being drunk and doing anything with firearms, the conversation's over... not cool in any way, shape, or form...
Well, considering that you can buy a firearm online while being miles away from any actual firearm, I don't think it's anything to lose any sleep over. It's about as dangerous as watching cop shows on TV when you've had a few.
zoom6zoom June 11, 2011, 04:32 PM So it's true.... Absinthe makes the bid grow stronger.
rogertc1 June 11, 2011, 07:58 PM Thanks guys. LOL
I wasn't drinking when I bought this shoulder fired Shorty...It rocks..

Very, very sad...drinking that swill I suppose you should be glad you aren't blind. Fits right in with the quality of beer you prefer however....shudders....If you ever get over my way I will let you taste the good stuff.
I had a COP back in the late 70's...took about 150 pulls on the trigger to get 50 rounds to go off...about half hit the B-27 at 25 yards. Went from the range to a gunshop and traded it on a lightweight Commander.
I think I still have the original box for it somewhere.
Kliegl June 12, 2011, 01:28 AM My only constructive comment on this thread is that Milwaukee's Best is horrible beer.
rogertc1 June 12, 2011, 01:43 AM Ever try Earthquake?
Kliegl June 12, 2011, 01:29 PM No sir, is it awful?
kayak-man June 12, 2011, 01:35 PM Couple weeks ago I went camping down at Cannon beach. I had drunk quite a bit the night before, and did not take my ADD meds in the morning. I now own a kite. A $120 kite.

Hocka Louis June 12, 2011, 03:42 PM Guns and alcohol don't mix. Well, maybe with a little stiring...
SheepNutz June 12, 2011, 09:20 PM You made off way better than one of my friends from college. He got drunk one night and woke up the next morning to find that he had bought $50 in Pez and a gold-plated Pez dispenser online!
