Wow, I do a lot of sailing up and down the coast of Baja. And I absolutely hate whales. Big, mean, stinky boat-killing varmints----I am sooooo very tempted to buy this thing......:D

I'm glad you realized that I was joking, Jeff, and that I only like this rifle/harpoony thingy for it's historical & curio value----but nonetheless, there is nothing fricken scarier than sailing 40 miles off shore at 0200 @ 9 knots, on a moonless, cloudy night and zero viz than having a pair of 35' humpbacks suddenly surface just yards off your beam and exhale. Big time pucker factor, given that there's not a whole lotta options on how to get out of their way in a hurry. Ya think these things look big on tv? Wait 'til you're staring right down their blow holes....:D

I too noticed the sarcasm and if you want it, but it! There may be a use for it. Come to Michigan and use to catch some carp out of the lakes. Seriously though, I cant watch the whale wars show. How dumb can they be? Environmentalists flying helicopters and driving boats into the japanese ships, and then they get surprised when the Japanese shoot back. Im not in favor of whaling, but am more practical than that. You cant go to literally the only place on earth with no rules or laws and get mad that its not fair. If we were serious about preventing whaling, surely some nuclear subs would surface once in awhile to scare the whalers off.

Unfortunately the Japanese are not the only yahoos killing whales. A few other countries get away with it as well. Plus here in Alaska the natives get away with it,, as well as all sorts of other legalized poaching and game waste. Oh before you go all dances with wolves on me,, I am 1/4 indigenous stock.

That harpoon gun would be handy for spearing offending semi-inflatables, firing grappling hooks to building tops, and with wooden stakes or holy-water soaked harpoons you could really mess with a herd of vampires.

Cool :)

I just got back from Norway and they were pretty serious about arming their exploratory ships like the Flam. Most cabins had spears or rifles. Saw a lot of well cared for Krag-Jorgensons :)

Guns as tools? I guess this says it all.

Instead of whales perhaps a tool for a "down on his luck" Batman?

Gawd but if I would've seen this thing 20 years ago I'd had bought it in a heart beat and taken it down to the beach in central Baja where my Dad retired to. He lived on the Pacific side in a sort of long, shallow bay where the surf was generally less than three feet. In the early morning and late afternoon the Corbina, the Spot fin croaker and the White sea bass would come in very, very close to shore and in the crystal clear water they were extremely visible. While the Corbina and Spotties rarely got over 7-9 pounds, the Whites were often over 45 lbs. This Huskie harpoon gun would have been an absolute blast to use on them....:D

We need to save the whales...We'll need something to eat when beef is outlawed, or gone...Whale is actually oretty tasty, and the native villages in Alaska where it is legal to harvest whales, live on it through the winter. There are no stores to go to...

But, I like the harpoon gun...Reminds me of a smaller version of the harpoon gun used in "The Dead Pool."

legalized poaching is an oxymoron. It cannot be legal and poaching.

Just a reminder - whaling politics and cultures are not on topic for THR.

I never realized Husq. split into several companies and made everything from firearms to mowers.

My dad is a retired Husq repair guy. I should get him a Husq rifle for his birthday! I have a garage full of mowers and chainsaws that he resurrected from the dead, so it is the least I could do. :)
