Marlin 1894c help needed: what ammo works best?

What types of bullets feed the best through these guns?

Softpoints?
Wadcutters?
Do heavier bullets (and this a longer OAL) help the .38 specials to feed better?

I am assuming that round nose bullets are a no-no in a tube fed gun, is that true?

Any input would be appreciated. Thanks in advance!

In my experience, any jsp, jhp, or jacketed fp. Cast rnfp, but the swc's hang on mine. Mine will run either .38 or .357 cases.

I load my own so can't really help you with store bought brands. I have heard though that 1894c's seem to show preference toward American Eagle (Federal) 158gr jsp's. Yet to see for myself though. Mine did do well with PRVI 158gr jhp's.

RNFP or TC cast bullets, or JHP's or JSP's all work good in mine. Wadcutters work if loaded long enough (sticking out the end of .357 brass) SWC's catch going into the chamber.

Only pointy nose bullets are a problem in a tube fed magazine.
My 1894C likes 180gr LRNFP over 15 gr of Lil'Gun.

I spend a lot of time over on Marlinowners.com and most over there contend that the possibility of a magazine explosion caused by pointed rounds impressing the primer of the round ahead of it is more urban legend than actual fact. I have put LeveRevolution and standard pistol .357 and .38 spl through mine without incident. I love shooting the 1894C. It is my most accurate rifle so far.

Thanks for the responses so far.

What about these FMJ round nose rounds? They seem like they MIGHT be too pointy. What do you guys think? Ok or nay in a tube fed?

I would use RNL but not round FMJ's.
