So I popped into a local shop that I liked today just to browse and handled a 9mm Taurus pt1911. I've been wanting a 1911 but the price of .45 without reloading has been holding me back. After feeling it and handling it I had to have it.

Anyone have any thoughts on them? It seemed reasonably priced at 525. Im going in tomorrow and it will be coming home with me.

I've got one, on balance I prefer my RIA 9mm Tactical which was about $100 cheaper, but they don't make one in stainless, I got the Taurus in stainless. Its not a strong preference.

Overall the wife and I are very happy with the pair.

My Taurus seems to shoot a bit low, after some more testing I'll probably get a fiber optic front sight from Dawson to correct the issue. I've had zero functional issues with it in the first 500 rounds or so.

The RIA had some failures to go fully into battery initially but was resolved with some shooting. Its got a lot more rounds through it than the Taurus since I've had it almost a year.

The low cost of 9mm ammo makes these a lot of fun! I'm really gald to see these on the market now, as it never made sense to me to spend $900+ on the Kimber, SA, etc. when the real purpose was to just shoot less expensive ammo.

Well i picked it up yesterday and I was impressed once I got it home in some good light the fit and finish is better than I expected for a low cost 1911. It's not the best finish but it's def better then I expected.

Upon getting it home and breaking it apart to clean it I noticed how dirty it was. It looked dirty in the store but once I got it apart boy was that a lot of grime and grease for a new gun. This is my first 1911 and first taurus so I'm hoping this is just the norm.

Cyclop did you notice your pt1911 shooting a bit low? Seems mine is dead center but shooting about 2" low or so at 10 yards. This is my first 1911 so it could very well be me and not the gun.

I'll try and post a target soon. Also the mags were insanely stiff and I could only load 8 rounds and I got on fte that I can pretty much attribute to the mag amd ammo. The cheap remington ammo wouldn't lock the slide open but all other ammo I tried would.

As I said, my PT1911 seems to shoot low, 2" at 10 yards sounds about right based on the hold I use shooting steel plates at 10 yards compared to the sight picture with my RIA.

I've not had time to shoot the PT1911 off sandbags, but I will do so before ordering a fiber optic sight from Dawson so I can be sure to order the correct one.

Wally thanks for the replies. If you get a chance to sandbag I I'd love to hear your findings. I was using 115grain Winchester training ammo. I won't get a chance to shoot off sandbags for two-three weeks because im swamped with work.

Mine shot 3"low at 10 yards with 115 grain and 2" low with 124 grain- I ordered an adjustable Novak from Novak- the problem is solved
