Got a new toy today.. SR1911

June 11, 2011, 01:06 AM
So, I'm going to admit some things about myself that others might not like or may make fun of me for :neener: but its all good.
Being the Ruger fanboi that i am, i picked up an SR1911 today. I will say i was a bit apprehensive about doing so considering its new in production and i was hearing some issues about the parts not being de-burred.
After looking it over and giving a good cleaning, i don't see the burring issues others have talked about. Maybe i got a good one, or they started cleaning them up on the line.

I really don't know about 1911's as this is my first one. Obviously it breaks down nothing like my SR9. That's going to take some getting used too.

Anyway the main reason for the post was to see if you guys wanted pictures of it. Assembled, broken down, etc. I know its pretty new, so i figured if i could help the community out by sharing, id be more than happy to do so.
Maybe you guys could help me learn something in the process.

I wanted to get a couple of extra shots inside the mag well to show the frame is cut-out to remove some weight, but i couldn't figure out how to get my camera in macro mode. Sorry :( Anyway here are the pics. (yay)

I have a Ruger P-90 very accurate. I like anything Ruger

Also have a Colt 1911 70 series looks a lot like that Ruger---something needs fixing as it tosses cases all over the place--usually at me ! ! !

Looks great. It's on my to buy list. when are you going to take it out for it's maiden voyage?

I'm hoping Friday morning. That will be a week. one very very long week.
I plan on loading up some rounds this week to make it go by a bit faster (or at least be able to shoot more).
Im hoping to get 3-400 rounds through it while at the range.

Ill report back then.

It's not just the accuracy, but that P90 feeds ANYthing I've ever fed it including an empty case! It feeds the old CCI flying ashtray just like ball.

If anyone can make a 1911 that feeds reliably with other than ball, Ruger can. I've been a Ruger fanboy for a while, but I've been there, done that with affordable 1911s. I could never afford a $5,000 one. Anyway, I gave 'em up. It ain't the gun's fault it won't feed anything, but ball. After all, it was DESIGNED specifically only for ball. The feed ramp design, the angle of attack of the round on the chamber, well, there are better designs for my preferences.

It did great today.
I didnt get as many rounds through it as i had hoped because i got a late start.
But probably close to 200-225 rounds.
Not a single issue.
No issue with the metals after getting it home and cleaning it. No odd wear marks, etc.

Sadly my wife is more accurate with it than i was to start.
For me it was shooting just a bit low and to the left.
My wife is a lefty and it was hitting dead center for her. (i suspect she's pushing)
But once i started in on some hand-loads i found the sweet spot where it did much better.

All in all im pleased. Money well spent IMO.

I am extremely jealous. Don't really know why but it isn't legal in california, so I can't have one. Total bummer, I hate this state and can't wait to leave. Guess I can buy any other 1911 but I love my rugers and would hate to pay more for less with some other brands.
