This is one of the older ones without a screw or any other visible latching mechanism. Also looking for a front sight.

I have a 22/.410 that is a later S/E model. My fore end removes by unscrewing a screw and then pulling down on the front of it. There is a latch in there that kind of cams in and holds it tight. The screw is pretty pointless as the fore end stays firmly attached without it.

Yours may be the same thing with no screw, try just pulling downward on the front/rear of it.

As for the sights, scroll about halfway down the page on the left.

There are dozens of variations of 22/410 - 24s. However on some of them the forend is removed by grasping the tip and pulling down. The front of the forend will drop down until there is enough slack to disengage the rear. It's held on by spring pressure.

Thanks - that did the trick. After seeing comments about how easy it is to break the tenite, I had been leery of pulling too hard.
