Just purchased a Saiga in .308. Are the mags from any other .308 AK variant (Vepr for example) useable with the Saiga? Thanks in advance for any insights.

Nope. Saiga and Vepr rifles take different magazines, thought they be very similar in design. The .308 AKs you could get before the import ban had their own magazines as well.

You can get VEPRs converted to either M14 or Galil magazines. Saigas can be converted to Galil magazines.

It also shouldnt be hard to convert a Saiga to use a FAL magazine. Mostly just moving the Saiga mag release a little to the right, so that the FAL mag can lock in. I think you might have to do a little filing on the mag well, too, but I dont remember. I tried it, once, with a Saiga in a local shop, and the only thing I really remember is the mag release is in the wrong place. It need to move just a little bit and then it would be OK.
