First up, I was the last to leave. Anyone that was at PGC today leave a box of ammo?

Anyway....

Got there a hair later than I had planned, but was met by MikeK, Dragonrider and his lovely GF. Ron, who shot with us last time with his daughter showed up with another relative, and we all had a great time.

Being a public range, other folks came and went. One gent with a Kolar let Dragonrider try it out for a shot. For those not knowing Kolars, this is a 10K shotgun fitted to the owner at the factory.Think, Ferrari....

Anyway, we had a good time and busted most of the targets. My best round was 24/25. The interesting thing was, I left the TB home and used Frankenstein. Since I'm planning on using it this Friday on The Great Eastern Shore One Goose Safari, I wanted to get reacquainted with it. After the TB with its ponderous near 9 lb weight,Frankenstein felt like a 20 gauge. After a couple rounds, it felt like a body part rather than a tool again.

A couple things...

As is my wont, I tried out a couple shotguns used by the folks. A Nova rattled mightily, and the trigger was vile.IMO, when Benelli gets it together on these items, they'll have a fine pumpgun.

The Benelli auto owned by the same member here had a better trigger. I ground a clay into fine dust with it and also with an 870 Express owned by a non member. Better trigger on the Express, both for weight and crispness.

Anyways, for those who may want to, I'll be back on Range 8 at 10AM tomorrow. Looking forward to it....

Dave, I should would like to see a picture of "Frankenstein." You ever posted a pic here or on TFL?

I had a good time and learned alot. Thanks again. The Kolar was a very interesting experience. I think I know what my next 2 summers of coaching salary are going to.....

I have a question wrt release triggers, say you do NOT want to take the shot, but have already engaged the trigger? Do you click a safety or something??

Although I'm thoroughly familiar with using the Net (especially how to shop), todays experience with Dave prompted me to actually register with THR and speak my peace ... John will be so proud!

First of all, I basically went along with John (Dragonrider) to ride shotgun in the 4Runner, keep him company during the drive and shoot a little trap. We frequently shoot at Bull Run so I'm not a rookie - but no Annie Oakley either.

I want to thank Dave publically for being a wonderful teacher and a gentleman. During our first round, he promptly gave me valuable suggestions peppered with encouraging words. While I wasn't always able to apply his suggestions, he never failed to keep being my cheerleader and helping me overcome my "rookie shortcomings"!

Dave, will John and I be back? - you bet we well!
We met some really nice folks and had a great time!

That being said ... the one downfall to the day was the ultimate pricetag.
John hasn't been able to stop talking about the Kolar he shot.
I think the "Permanent Head of the Budget Committee" (me) has just added a new line item to our household budget.

Anyone have any suggestions for the next winning set of MegaMillions lottery numbers????

Had a better time than last week, since my scores improved a little - mid-teens. Thanks again Dave. Can't make tommorrow, but I'll try for next Saturday.

Welcome to THR HkHussy. Nice meeting you and John.

The cheap Winchester cycled problem free. The AA's still had an occasional failure to lock the bolt back. 7 1/2 vs 8 and brass vs steel bases were the only differences.

Dave, I'm gonna skip out on ya again tomorrow. I realized the indoor shoot is next weekend so I'm gonna save my ammo cash for that. I will get out there again with you sometime though.

Guyon, I posted that in a thread a few months back called, "Some Pics". Maybe next time the usual suspects and I meet at PGC, someone will bring a digicam and Kodak the whole Mizpocha.

Good going, Jim, keep it up.

John, damfino about release triggers. Never used one, don't expect to either.
And, for a newbie, you sure ground lots of targets into dust. Kudoes!

Sara, you're very welcome. Glad to help. But what about your OWN Kolar(G)?

Also, get that SBE fitted, it's amazing what a better fit does. A trigger job wouldn't hurt either.

Mike, you're getting there. Try a few more boxes through that thing, you're still in early breakin mode. A couple more sessions will do it. Unless things happen, I'll be back there same time Saturday.

anapex, whenever. Life interrupts shooting sometimes. You know how to reach me and where to find me.

A couple things....

First, please keep safety in mind. You've done well, but INGRAIN it until it's automatic as breathing.

Second, practice mounts and swings at home. The more we handle them, the better we handle them. Gets those muscles built up for a 1K clay day like Kolar Gary was talking about, and gets those responses honed.

Y'all are a good bunch of folks, looking forward to the next time...
